532112 2008-12-19 19:29:00 I am slow - had not thought of googling Optus D1 as well ! Have done so now though and see that

sky are switching from Optus B1 satellite to the new Optus D1 satellite
Appears clear therefore that I would need to get a technician in to realign the aerial
(thinks, I wonder how much that will cost :( )

No, do you really think Sky moved every single subscribers dish when they swapped satellite?

The replacement satellite is in the same orbit location 160E. If you have dish that was/is used for Sky. You can plug in a satellite receiver such as the ones you find on Trademe.

But if you want HDTV you need to use the terrestrial service. As the satellite version is standard defintion.

Terrestrial version needs a UHF tv antenna and a Terrestrial set top box.($300) Or the purchase of a new TV with Freeview tuner built in.

Don't get a loan - if you can't afford it, don't buy it. It's people frivolously spending money they don't have that has led to the economic crisis we are in now.

532117 2008-12-20 11:33:00 Just tossed a dish on the roof of a friend, cost (not including beer for me) was $130 for the bit on the roof down to the back of his TVs (2), inclusive.

STB, LNB, Dish, Cable, Sat Finder, 750 mm Dish and a piece of string.

532118 2008-12-20 17:42:00 Can't wait for you to tell us what the piece of string was for... Fishing?, tie the arial to the roof? some other unique purpose?

Maybe so. But if people don't spend money the retailers will soon go out of business and our retail market will look with the 1960s and 70s again. High priced junk.. plus all the unemployed who use to work in retail and their suppliers..

That's just a short term gain - because when these people have to declare bankruptcy because they can't afford to pay their mortgage + credit card bills + hire purchase bills + loan sharks + put food on the table, then everyone else suffers.
