733419 2009-01-01 09:08:00 The prices on itunes are outrageous.
They're more expensive than if you took a movie out from your local video shop.
Why is there not a reasonably priced easily accessible service?

I think most people would use it if there was.

Why is everything so complicated????

If you think things are complicated now just wait until you grow up.

Most people can get to a video shop quicker than it takes to download a movie.

You may think twice about downloading movies when you have to pay for the data usage yourself.

733420 2009-01-01 09:22:00 Haha its cheaper and easier either way.

And some people have unlimited bandwidth 100mb/s internet.

Only when I'm in Hong Kong:p

You may think twice about downloading movies when you have to pay for the data usage yourself. Second that - If I wanted a Movie I could walk to the video Shop and be back in less than 15 minutes and playing it - at a cost of max $7.00 or if its been out for a while $1.00 on certain days.

Frankly people can download what ever they want - if they get caught, or more than likely end up with infections on their PC - I dont give a toss.

Best one I seen I warned a guy about using utorrent - he said he didn't care - I refused to install it after a complete reinstall, and advised if he wanted it he can install it -- while driving back home, he phoned me on the cell less than 20 minutes later saying his PC had just got reinfected from the same downloads and could I come back to clean it.

No problems - Told him another service call (at over $100), and he had just finished paying me $180.00.

733424 2009-01-01 10:54:00 Yup some people never learn :p

The PC's I used to fix had 1 thing in common, all had some P2P program on them

No matter how many times I told them, not to use one, they still used it, it came back to me, and I got paid a 2nd/3rd/4th time

They've probably got sick of bringing their PC/s to me now, (I havent seen any of them for 2 yrs+), coz they know they'll have to pay more than before.

They're probably still using some sort of P2P program, getting infected, and paying more for some shop to fix it

733425 2009-01-01 11:04:00 I've never seen an AVI or MPEG file that was full of viruses yet... fakes are much more likely

But I don't see how me personally downloading the latest episode of whatever can change a thing.

TVNZ don't know what I watch, they don't know when I watch, the don't know IF I watch. They probably don't even know who I am/that I exist.

They still play the shows and get paid for the advertising no matter if I watch them or not. I just cannot feel guilty in downloading a TV show that I would have otherwise watched for free anyway.

Even if I bought it from iTunes or wherever, TVNZ would still be unaffected. The same goes if I watched it on the TVNZ website, which is also free.

The Copyright (New Technologies) Amendment Act 2008 updates copyright law in New Zealand . The new legislation makes ISPs liable to rights holders if they host material for a customer which infringes copyright .

On 28 February 2009 section 92A of the Act comes into force . This section will require ISPs to implement policies with the effect of suspending or terminating the accounts of customers who repeatedly infringe copyright .

Some examples of breaches of this Act

People illegally downloading movies, songs or games
People sharing movies, music and software through file sharing programs on the internet .
Posting songs and movies on websites and letting others download them

733428 2009-01-01 20:52:00 Thanks for that link Safari -- It will be interesting when certain people start crying if they get caught and fined.

Theres plenty of legal torrents about - 1st one that comes to mind is Linux, often available Via torrents.

I've never seen an AVI or MPEG file that was full of viruses yet I have - its not in the avi - its in the torrent as a separate file.

A classic example is a music track a customer was after for their wedding - they tried to legally buy it, but it was to old and couldn't find it - they used limewire - and I was told that it took them over 40 tries to download the song, as each time Nod32 picked up trojans from the downloads - in the end they found a cd at a second hand store with the song and brought it for $2
