532506 2007-03-14 04:52:00 So, how did you demolish the left front guard and bonnet Joe? I assume unpainted means replacements, especially since the right front guard is red . :D

Cheers

Billy 8-{)

That "blemish" was when a fellow on a dirt road hit me . . . he was in a slide and couldn't avoid hitting me . . .

I replaced the fender, hood and grill, a lower control arm, a steering box and a rim . The windshield was broken at the time too, as Laura, I think noted .

Here's a pix ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/PICT0018 . JPG" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz) of the damage to me, and here ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/PICT0017 . JPG" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz), and here is the skid marks ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/PICT0007 . JPG" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz) . . . see where he crossed in front of me? ,

Here's the damage to his dad's truck ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/PICT0002 . JPG" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz), and here ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/PICT0001 . JPG" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz), and here ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/PICT0019 . JPG" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz) . Notice that I tore his differential off the leaf springs, ripped the bed and part of the driver's door off, and he then hit a very large rock with the other side of his truck and totaled it too .

Remember that we drive on the right side of the road . . . and you can see the skid marks are on my side, crossing over in front of me and bouncing off to the far right side where he shouldda been in the first place .

Now . . . here's a pix of the goon as he was coming at me to take my camera away from me . . . . ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/PICT0008 . JPG" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz) . . . see the anger and his walk? All of a sudden, two very tall guys showed up and would not let him near me .

Well, I got $3500 . 00 for the damages, another $4000 . 00 for loss of vehicle for a few months and I got to keep and repair the Isuzu .

That's why the fender and hood are still in primer . I will likely paint it this Summer . . . I got 2 gallons of Porsche "Lipstick Red" for it .

532507 2007-03-14 19:53:00 nasty damage :O - insurance cover it? MAC_H8ER (5897)
532508 2007-03-14 20:55:00 Something was bothering me about your photos Joe, then suddenly I realised what it was: The steering wheel was on the wrong side (could explain your accident if the other guy had the same problem) and the badge was some incomprehensible name that didn't look anything like Suzuki .

I've fixed both of those for you now, so take a look Here ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/Suzuki1173905243 . jpg" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz) for what a real Suzuki should look like . :D I parked it on the other side of the road too, it's not good to leave it facing the oncoming traffic .

There's a bit of distortion on the bottom of the driver's side windscreen pillar as well, is that a hangover from your coming together?

Cheers

Very funny!

It ain't a Skuzuki . . . it's an Isuzu Amigo, that I have "de-badged" and replaced them with Chevrolet emblems just to keep the sheriff confused .

The PASSENGER side windshield is cracked from the accident, and yes, the insurance paid off handsomely to the tune of $3500 . 00US + the fees I charged them for loss of consortium between me and the vehicle . All in all, I got them to honk up $7500 . 00US - $10931 . 35NZD .

They are still bleeding from the encounter with me .

532510 2007-03-14 23:26:00 4ages are known to burn more oil, regardless of engine condition, some will do it more than others, I have a 91 ae101 with a silvertop in it, and know a few other people with 4ages, and they have all noticed that it uses a little more oil than alot of other cars . Also your car lacks vvt-i, it has vvt, which is controlled by throttle position and revs, can come on at any revs according to throttle position, but turns off above around 7000rpm .

I do notice my car burns more oil when giving it a bit of a blat, but you'll get that with 8400rpm rev limits

You could try use a slightly higher viscosity oil and see if it changes? I currently use 10-40 and thinking of going up just a notch with my next oil change to see if anything changes .

Head on over to http://forums . toyspeed . org . nz (toyspeed) if you have any more questions

532511 2007-03-15 00:21:00 I use to own a 84 Toyota Corolla 1.6 Liftback. I used Castrol GTX oil in it and in between oil changes used no oil. I use to do my own oil changes. I had a garage do it once and they put Shell Helix oil in it and in between oil changes the level went down to about halfway on the dipstick. Went back to GTX and it didn't use any oil.

Urrrgh . . . . . Shoulda woulda coulda gone back and checked that, all I remembered was that it had a suzu in it!

That hombre who hit you was a wild one! How the heck did he manage to get irate with you, the victim, or was he just pissed about the damage to his vehicle?

Taking photos after the event would seem to be a normal and sensible practice to record the scene for insurance purposes, and also to counter any false liability claims . The costs of litigation in the US would make you run a mile to avoid stepping inside the courthouse door .

He was lucky you weren't packin and that there were a couple of good citizens in support as well, else he might have got perforated in self-defence . I favour the close-range groin shot myself, more to lose and harder to fix . ;)

Cheers

's OK . . . . . I saved the photo as my desktop to remind me of this incident . . . funny really!

The nutcase with the bad attitude was up on the fireroads with his buddy and a young girl, toking a few bongers and then driving under the influence . . . hard to miss legal traffic in that condition .

He has had a few run-ins with the local gendarmes in the past over his recreational pharmaceuticals . . . and this might've been really bad . . . but the paramedics and fire truck didn't check the whites of his eyes at the time, and he got off again .

I have no idea on earth where the large dudes came from who kept little Robert from physically taking my camera away from me . . . . they might've dropped from a cloud for all I knew . . but I was very glad they arrived .

I think I have a very distant picture of one of the guys ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/PICT0023 . JPG" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz); while the other went up the road to get a cellphone connection . Maybe you can use your photo-enhancing wizardry to see him clearer . . . he is next to my vehicle on the left of it . . 'way almost outa camera range . It was only a 1 . 3 mpx camera by the way .

His insurance agent even had the gombies to argue that HE had pictures of the accident and would use them against me in court . . . I asked him where he got the pictures, and he said his client took them . I sent him the pixs I took on a cd and he shut up that line of reasoning quick enough .

Ah, well . . it was nice to hold an insurance company hostage for once .

My own insurance company agent asked me why I don't carry comprehensive insurance, and I told him that I've never had an accident that was my fault .

He laughed . :D

I went to the bank .

532514 2007-03-15 20:04:00 in reply to dirtbag: yeah we use 10W-40 Castrol Magnatec in it - this time when we went to buy some oil for it they had no magnatec in stock  so we got some oil that was on special - Valvoline stuff - i forget the exact name of it but this stuff is 15W-40 instead of the castrol's 10W-40 and my dad swears by valvoline - so its getting its oil changed tomorrow - filter and all so we will have to see what happens later on

i even bought some Wynn's Engine flush - is this stuff any good? it says it loosens up the gunk inside the engine just before you change the oil - or is it just another gimmick for naive people?

532515 2007-03-16 00:24:00 Don't loosen anything!

Some engines depend on that "something" to keep the clearances where they belong . . . and I've had to overhaul a few engines from snake oils afterwards .

Oil goes in the crankcase . . . not additives .

Valvoline is most mechanic's second choice for lube oil here in the states .

Castrol is #1 for people who work on engines, but don't want to work on their own . . . read that and heed that .

Consider yourself fortunate you don't have the California EPA to mess with the chemistry of your oils and fuels there in Upsidedown Land .

Here they have legislated the good stuff out of almost everything . . . and right now, the transition is on for lube oils . . . and I am afraid that Castrol and ALL oils are being changed in chemical makeup to the danger of engines with flat tappet cams . The newer roller cams are ok . . you can lube them with spit . . . but the older engines NEED the good stuff in the older oils to keep the cam bumpy .

Soooooo . . . the right thing to do now is change to the oils used in diesel engines . . . after all, they meet or exceed the specs for gas engines by a long shot anyway .

Delo 400 or Rotella, here I come!

California sucks big for this latest nonsense . But they won't mess with the diesel lube oils for at least a year yet .

Then I have to illegally bring oil from Arizona or Texas . . . I think I can start a smuggling operation for people who refuse to buy a new car and need the older type oils .

Hmmmm . . . . ? Did Bill Gates start this way . . . filling a void?
