531843 2007-03-14 00:34:00 Im thinkin of upgrading to vista business ...I dont think vista shud b a problem for me... Mr Wetzyl (362)
531844 2007-03-14 01:01:00 I just got a copy of Vista Business Edition on Monday for free from Uni. Haven't installed it yet, and probably wont for a while yet. I don't want to do a fresh install because my current install is fairly new and I cant be bothered going through the hassle of installing all the software again.

Was considering just doing an upgrade until the installer said i need SP2 before that can happen, and cant really be bothered dedicating bandwidth to SP2 at this time.

531845 2007-03-14 04:46:00 Using Vista Premium right now.

Seems smooth, I see no real problems here apart from a few minor (and expected) compatability issues with hardware which I have worked around.

Boots a bit faster than XP, but then this hardware is twice the speed of the old XP hardware.

Based on your new hardware, then it boots a hell of a lot slower that XP..

531847 2007-03-14 07:38:00 I know someone who has an old Acer C-1100 something tablet PC that is quite old now by PC standards.
It ran XP fine. They then put on Vista Business and it ran OK actually booting faster than XP. Using Vista was a bit slower than XP so they put a USB pen drive in and configured 512MB for readyboost. Now it is much better than XP.

531848 2007-03-14 19:16:00 In my younger days, (Shurrup !!!!), there was a saying about the latest new model of a car. "Buy it in it's second year when all the faults have been fixed" Something like that anyway.

I suppose that would apply to anything. Even Vista. XP has been around for some time, & faults are still being found & fixed. In truth tho, the faults themselves, mainly, are no problem. The problem is down to those "P Words" who exploit them.

It is unlikely that I would buy Vista, as XP is more than enough for an old codger like me. PJ The Unrepentant.
You were thinking of English cars, the Japs have changed all that.
Poinless buying it for the sake of buying it,but would get on a new computer,as would any reasonable person.

531850 2007-03-17 01:34:00 It is reliably reported that someone in Petone bought a copy yesterday. However, the sale may not be enforceable as he was very drunk at the time.

The EULA can be tough at the best of times, let alone when you have had one too many (or live in Petone :D )

I have a copy of Vista Ultimate in my possession (legit of course).

I have loaded it onto a 1GHz PIII with 512MB RAM. It didn't find the video card or the network card whereas XP did (they are onboard common as Japanese cars sort of thing). It did find the sound card though which is also common as muck variety.

531851 2007-03-18 00:10:00 Not going to buy it in the near future. XP is fine for me, and I have mandriva & Ubuntu to fiddle with when the mood strikes.

Which is not to say I'm boycotting it. In a year or 2 when I upgrade my hardware next, vista should run smoothly without needing to spend many $, and the first (or second) fixed version will be out.

Even if you did boycott it, I don't it will make much different to Microsoft's income (of course, if 1,000,000 people think like that, thats a different matter).
