531906 2007-03-11 08:02:00 Can't beat swatting i think.

I have Mortien odourless spray. It is indeed odourless in the sense of not having a distinct smell. But it IS detectable, and in my case quite nausea-inducing. It doesn't have a 'smell' but it's quite horrible to inhale, i don't have a great explanation of it.

Try it & see :P

I'm a bug sissy so will probably always have a can at the ready, but the supposed hypo-alergenic and odourless types are not neutral and buyers beware - it's a chemical spray, you might react to it.

Ever found a 4 cm cockroach crawling around your dinner plates when opening a cupboard? I used a vacuum cleaner, but I'd have no hesitation in spraying the b'stad and feck the cleanup, gotta wash anyway.

That'll sterilize the plate, kill any eggs and make a tasty little hors d'oeuvres while neutralizing the smell of fly spray. Leave the lawn un-mowed for a week to balance any CO2 emissions.
Beats having an anoxic giant cockroach staggering out of your vacuum cleaner covered in dust and fighting mad at 3AM.

531908 2007-03-11 09:29:00 I found that the RAID odorless is better than Morteins as it doesn't give off any distinct smell, but then again, you might inhale heaps of it without knowing since it's completely odorless.

I don't have any particular insects in mind to kill. Just the normal pests.

Also I've noticed that spiders (don't know the name, but they're kind of black dark plum color? ) are very hard to kill unless you sprayed heaps until it's covered all in white ....

531909 2007-03-11 09:49:00 Im lead to believe that spiders doent have veins in their legs or some such non-sense, so are harder to kill....Meh, No idea if thats relivant.

Anyhow, Did I ever mention that I worked in the Mortien factory for a couple weeks over in aussie?, Casual rate was $25 dollars an hour, Though I pity the fool who spends their entire life on afactory floor.

uh...where was I...Oh yeah, Fly spray is so watered down as to be near useless, I got some from that factory that was shipped over to some pacific islands, and some nasty places in asia, Small container, sold for less then a dollar, Would kill everything in a 100m radius including your cat, dog, cow and mother-in-law.

Great stuff, I was frowned upon for removing it from the factory, It even upset a couple of people, but hell, you only live once.

As for flyspray from the supermarket, If I spray a fly and it doesn't drop within a minute then as far as Im concerned its not fy spray, I dont spray the buggers so they can die in their own sweet time, I spray em so they die NOW. DIE DIE DIE.

Therefore, I always select the instant kill spray, The more acrid the smell the better, In whichever brand comes in the biggest can, Then I shut all the doors and widows, Then bomb the living crap out of every room in the house.

DIE DIE DIE.

What!! Metla upset someone!!! Hard to believe!! :p

If this instance was some tme ago, I guess you're saying it's a character trait that you can't control??? :D :D

Keep it up, Metla!

531911 2007-03-11 20:53:00 Pyrethrum is relatively innocuous as insecticides go, being made from chrysanthemums.
en.wikipedia.org

Yes, a neighbour grows them in her garden, I see flies resting on them quite often. Which would be right as the pyrethrum sprays I've tried don't do much to the giant stealth bombers we get down here.

Most others seem to stuff them up at first but longterm value is nil.
Anyway its all poison so I'm not that keen on the stuff, I just let the giant spiders thrive instead.

531913 2007-03-11 22:19:00 I believe some spray 'dry', which means it does not leave a mess to clean on windows but cannot recall which brand. The cheap no frills insect sprays do not stay in the air very long since the larger droplets fall faster. Strommer (42)
531914 2007-03-11 22:41:00 I am not trying to open an old post (well . . . OK it was a fun one too), but I use WD-40 .

It smells good, will lubricate any door hinges it happens to get on, and makes the flies die by asphyxiation . It plugs up their surface lungs and they die from lack of oxygen .

It is after all just a light aromatic oil with an odorant in it . . and oil blocks respiration of most insects .

Just a light "pfft!" into the air and the flies will land, try to clean their thorax and eyes, and in a few minutes they drop dead .

I have not noticed this activity on humans or pets that get some of the mist on them, so I assume at these concentrations and levels, it is not harmful .

Disposal of their little bodies is your responsibility .

Too bad the flies don't scream a little though . . . it would add to the moment . :D

531915 2007-03-11 23:56:00 For the last few years I have been using "Ripcord" from RD1, a local cow-cocky wholesaler. You spray it under the eaves of house and around internal light fixtures and places of shade that they made hide in.

They have a "household use" bottle now also, but the first one I got was the powerful farm use stuff. Just dilute and spray away.

We still get the odd fly, but nowhere as much as we used to.
