733886 2009-01-01 00:36:00 Hi. My machine runs well, although it has possibly got a little slower over time. A scan for Registry Issues in CCleaner identifies some 270 'Registry Issues' ranging from 'Missing Shared DLL', 'Unused File Extension', 'Invalid Default Icon', 'AcyiveX/Com Issue', 'Open With Application Issue', 'Missing TypeLib Reference', 'Help File Issue', 'Installer Reference Issue', 'Uninstaller reference Issue', 'Obsolete Software Key', 'Missing Startup Software' to Missing MUI Reference'.

If I nominate 'Fix (selected) Issues' for the above, am I likely to end up in a worse state?

MS Windows XP SP3
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+; 1.0 Gb RAM; NVIDEA GeForce FX5200.

Cheers.

733887 2009-01-01 00:41:00 all that stuff builds up over time if you regularly uninstall/install programs etc, i use ccleaner and all the options ticked under the registry option(by default i think) and have not had any problems.

you can click "fix all", if you are unsure click "back up registry" before cleaning.

733888 2009-01-01 03:56:00 Thanks, GameJunkie. I've done it. No probs evident at this stage. A Team (13613)
733889 2009-01-01 04:25:00 no probs, have you used the cleaner option as well to get rid of temp files etc? GameJunkie (72)
733890 2009-01-01 04:29:00 I always back up the registry just to be safe then keep the backup for a few days until I know there are no drama's gary67 (56)

.

Nope. Its not a bad program but none of them, ever, clean the registry out properly.
Because they err on the side of caution.........

733892 2009-01-01 06:27:00 that is true what you say pcteck, had this program called registrybooster which found roughly 400 registry errors whereas ccleaner finds very few , if any now( good thing i guess) GameJunkie (72)
733893 2009-01-01 06:34:00 I also use CCleaner, it is very good.

Then I use a program called RegOpt which compresses the registry a bit.

But there needs to be a program that rewrites the whole registry to a new smaller file.

733895 2009-01-01 07:59:00 Has anyone ever seen a test that shows that so called registry cleaners make any performance difference whatsoever? apsattv (7406)
