532395 2007-03-12 15:39:00 The on-going fire in Anaheim hasn't a chance of getting anywhere near to Disneyland, even though the fire IS in the same city .

This area is in the Anaheim Hills section of the county, and is about 9 miles east from the epicenter of Anaheim .

You will still have a place to use your "E" tickets when you visit .

Loss so far: 2,000 acres+, 4 buildings, not sure if they are homes or outbuildings though, arson set fire to cover stolen vehicle, 80% contained, 5% relative humidity today and record temps predicted: over 90F .

532396 2007-03-12 19:04:00 How can they call an annual rainfall of under 12" normal? Every Kiwi passing through the place should carry a water pistol and irrigate a couple of acres. We had about a month of your rainfall last night while I was coming home from work, I could have wrung out a county's worth from my trousers but I wasted it. Sorry. R2x1 (4628)

Have you forgotten how many "normals" our long skinny high/low altitude country has?

Staying with Imperial -
In Alexandra, it's only 12/13 inches.
But in Fiordland/West Coast, you measure it in feet.

You Aucklanders are somewhere in between...

532398 2007-03-12 23:49:00 Alexandra, aren't they exceedingly proud of their variance from the norm in almost everything aside from the date?
I thought Fiordland rainfall was measured in fathoms (lots of fathoms)?
;)

Or metres. Like 6.5 metres annually. :stare:

Been puzzling over this for a while, but no light has dawned.

Which of Alexandra's various claims to fame does it refer to?
Must have missed something...

Maybe that's where F1 gets their time synchronization...

A strange co-incidence that you suggest that, Joe.

What you wouldn't know from your distance is that Alexandra is distinctive in having a huge clock set on the craggy hillside above the town.
And as it keeps better time than PF1's, synchronisation wouldn't be a bad idea.

Edit: Though as it means a mountain climb to make a Daylight Saving change (which we do this coming weekend), it might be an hour out for a while on Sunday.

We changed last Saturday at midnight or thereabouts.

Trying to recall the details after this many years, but a few were "bluest sky in the world", " best beer drinkers in the world", "Best looking women...", "angriest cops ever", "World's best mechanics", "Longest (This varied) in the world", and the "Best rabbitting dogs anywhere, anytime."
Jock was a fine chap, but he had a habit of ale in, superlatives out in quick succession. Since he was a passing fair consumer of ale, we got to hear a fair bit about the virtues of Alexandra.. One thing was certain, he would never admit to anything in Alexandra ever sinking down to average. (If the temperature was the same throughout NZ, Alexandra had got there first, and stayed the longest.
Jock did it much better than I can. (Naturally I suppose, considering where he came from.)
Looking back, it's a bit of a puzzle why he was in Auckland. Maybe a cultural ambassador? Certainly a hard bloke to forget.
