| 533651 | 2007-03-16 20:35:00 | Waitakere District Court duly fined the council and ordered it to pay $780 court costs. It will pay itself the fine, minus the court's 10 per cent cut. It has already stumped up $3,000 for pre-trial "outside legal opinion". (www.theregister.co.uk):D Question: Why do I, in Southern California find this sort of article? |

Question: Why do I, in Southern California find this sort of article? Because Google has amassed a huge amount of personal info on you and has profiled you... sorry- returned searches in line with your personal preferences. It's nothing to worry about, they know more about you than the IRS and they are now only going to keep that info for 18-24months instead of forever  |

| 533654 | 2007-03-16 21:25:00 | Local Councils are fed up with losing court battles, so they take on easy targets. Our Local Council which adjoins Waitakere has had to admonish itself for altering it's own buildings in contravention of it's own and national laws. Unfortunately it was not aware that prosecuting itself would guarantee it a win in court. I am sure that lawyers everywhere will be lining up to promote this sort of thing. If the Police prosecuted themselves as well as the speeder they followed they could double their conviction rate. |

| 533655 | 2007-03-17 04:03:00 | yea that pissed me off somewhat, my rates going into paying their lawyers among other useless things. waitakere council is pretty useless. what they did was built/moved something without a permit, so rather than just fast-tracking a permit they sued themselves... another move of sheer brilliance was moving their HQ into henderson. their existing building was "too small". so instead of building another one on the enormous grounds (now a private school), they built a whole new thing in the middle of henderson. now here's the kicker. they deliberately built it with too little parking "to encourage train patronage". in doing so they moved the railway 5m east to make room for their building, disrupting the trains, removing an important one-way street, and spending millions. not having built enough parking, and trains being ****, the parking in henderson went from "just ok" to "good f*cking luck" (the office workers were parking everywhere, even in the high school). now henderson is to be avoided at all times, simply due to the horrific traffic, in part due to them building a huge office there, and them removing that shortcut/bypass in favour of putting their building in a particular spot. worst part is that they passed a law so you can't even build a house without also making adequate parking and then go and do this |

(and no they wouldn't change the building plan, plan it with the tree considered, or consider that all the **** this building causes is much less green than building a second one on their old grounds where it doesn't ruin traffic.) they even started playing classical music outside the plaza on gt. nrth rd buy the mall exit to try to scare of anyone under the age of 60. IT'S A MALL ***, right by a burger king, mcdonalds, movies, bowling, etc etc just goes to show the fundamental flaw in democracy: by the time anyone gets through the beurocracy to get into power it's been so long the have forgotten why they did it in the first place and what people actually want. i hear north shore wouldn't remove a half dead tree hanging over a road, sure enough it fell down 3 months later, crushing a few cars and downing power lines |

| 533658 | 2007-03-17 11:15:00 | The waitakere council ran a vote to have a pay rise to some of their important people on board and guess what? It won! (seeing as they voted for themselves I don't see why not) Was in the Western Leader about 4 weeks back. Just a little side notice as well :) But for me its a bit sad that I moved from waitakere. No more being called westie but now hobbiton. |

| 533660 | 2007-03-17 22:06:00 | The entry test for potential councilors is the same as the entry test for becoming a Microsoft dealer, i.e. nada - zilch - nothing. Of course, if you wish to become a parking warden (probably a Stationary Vehicle Regulatory Infringement Enforcement Officer by now) for the very same council there are quite a few compliance requirements and a rigorous selection process. Is that because the wardens have to be able to read and write to issue tickets ? |
