I think even politicians do IT.

Apart from Helen Mugabe of course.

533128 2007-04-05 14:12:00 I too saw the re-run of Helen Clark clearly stating there wouldnt be an anti smacking law, so now we have prove of lies!. How dooooo they get away with it. Blantant c**p.

There needs to be laws to pull MP's into line!!!
She signed a painting she never painted; rode in a car doing well over the speed limit to get to a photo oppertunity for a rugby game she couldn't give a stuff about and didn't admit it. Spent tax payers dollars on first a billboard and then a pledge card promoting Labour and we poor suckers once again had to pay for it. I would say that Metla's bill needs expanding.

533129 2007-04-05 14:36:00 Metla said ... That kid required a puniushment to match his actions, .. Regardless how you feel about smacking .. NO CHILD SHOULD BE BELTED WITH A WEAPON! This *child* in this case, was over 14, if I remember correctly. Way past the ability of corporal action to have any affect!
Either way .. the event should not have happened.
I went to a secondary school where we sometimes had the choice between the cane or an hour and a half's hard labour(it was hard labour) and apart from one teacher who was very proficient with a cane we took the cane because it was over and forgotten in a very short time, and the guy that was proficient with the cane was also very respected because he was also very fair.
Every kid needs to know that if they go past a certain point there will be immediate consequences. I have seen a girl get time out and return with the exactly same attitude as when it occured.

I also as a child had my mother give me the strap on the hand(she used to be a teacher) whenever I did something that was unacceptable. None of this has made me violent or screwed me up sycologicaly. (sorry lost spelling checker)
I personaly think alot of the trouble we have today is because children are not held responsible for what they do. There is no shame because their name is withheld when going through the courts. Bring back the stocks or something similar so that they are shamed into doing what is required by society

533131 2007-04-05 15:24:00 Now that our parliament is out to abolish spanking we have to look for alternative ways of effectively disciplining wayward children, so I have tried other methods to control my kids when they have one of "those moments."

One that I found effective is for me to just take the child
for a car ride and talk.

They usually calm down and stop misbehaving
after our car ride together.

I've included a photo below of one of my sessions
with my son, in case you would like to use the technique.

Sincerely,
A Friend

533132 2007-04-05 22:18:00 Nice photos. I think most of us agree anti-smacking legislation will not prevent child abuse. If you want to over-throw the Government then need I remind you to use legal means otherwise you too will be up for sedition. (www.stuff.co.nz) andrew93 (249)
