| 532945 | 2007-03-15 04:16:00 | I think are we all aware of commercial reality, but there comes a point where we have to wonder if it is all worth while, should we end it all? These sorts of question arrise. You know, it's only a few weeks ago that scores of addicts were suffering massive withdrawal symptoms and lack of direction when PF1 went offline for a few days. Imagine if it went offline permanently? What would everyone do then?  Other than the Linux people who are having genuine problems with the adverts, some of you guys have incredibly bad manners for blatantly declaring your use of ad-blockers on this site. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. |

Apparently he's not the touchy feely sort...:waughh: :yuck: Thanks Scott, I hope there weren't too many expletives. The trick is to keep doing it until he is desensitised and 'normal':D If anyone wants to see an add abomination just go to the American PCWorld (no relative of PCWorld NZ I believe!) using IE... it could stop people grumbling about our little corner of the world  |

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you . Actually I totally disagree with you on that one Foxy . Those ads are there because someone wants to make money out of us- NO OTHER REASON . How can it be bad manners to block ads that we don't want, advertising something that we are unlikely to buy . I certainly don't think it's bad manners to stick circulars from my mail box in the rubbish and tell the owners that I do it . People should really start thinking about the backlash that intrusive advertising can cause- once you upset a potential mark . . . . sorry customer . . . for any reason it is almost impossible to get them back, even less likely that they will buy it . Advertisers beware . |

| 532949 | 2007-03-15 04:47:00 | I didn't say it was bad manners to block the ads, I said it was bad manners to declare on the forum here that you are blocking them . By all means object to the amount of advertising if it is indeed excessive because, after all, I am sure they would rather know our feelings and perhaps do something about it before we all stop coming here than just have us all disappear and wonder why . Like it or not we have to put up with some advertising as, like they keep telling us, someone has to fund the site, but if you choose to block them I think it is better manners to keep that to yourself rather than proudly trumpet the fact on here . They don't really want to hear that and if everyone did the same I'm sure it wouldn't be long before the plug was pulled . :waughh: |

| 532950 | 2007-03-15 04:57:00 | You know, I've written and discarded 3 replies now, because they all start off calm and end up at a place where I'll get called into someone's office and told not to go near a keyboard again. So I guess I'll leave it. No need to take it personally old chap.....Though I have always enjoyed your off the cuff slay them in the cheap seats first draft replies that we sometimes squeeze out of ya. |

| 532951 | 2007-03-15 06:36:00 | As a total outsider here and too far away from any sponsors who might reap the benefits of my seeing their ads, I have to say that if my eyes hurt from trying to find the posts and having to dig thru all sorts of "But first, a word from our sponsor . . . " crappola, then I would proudly say that I use AdBlock . . . I actually enjoy intelligently done and well thought out advertisements . . . mention the Super Bowl ads, and I watch them . . but not the SuperBowl . . but that's just me . I like creativity, and ads are a fine source of entertainment to me . BUT! . . . If they impede the purpose of the site, get in the way and jar my sensitivities to eye gore and stupidity, then, yes, I freely admit that I block them . And again, as a total outsider, the ads won't work for me as I don't want to incur the postage and shipping needed to get delivery to my door from overseas . Perhaps the sponsors didn't think all the way thru the fact that this little ol' site would be international in scope . I apologize for my flippancy, but it really makes me a little sorry that I cannot actually see any of the ads . . . pretending they must be well-done and perhaps with a little of that famous NZ wit . . . . I am the loser here . . . . but I won't lose any sleep over it . To the mods: Thanks for letting this post get along as long as it did . . . the obvious is that there needs to be revenue generation from all aspects of modern merchandising . . . sad, but true . There aren't any "loss-leaders" out there any more . . . or to put it differently: "Let them have this, we can afford it" mentality . It's just good PR . . and if I lived in NZ or even (gasp!) Australia, I'd for sure visit the sites that support this arena of wit, technology and sarcasm . |
