| 533162 | 2007-03-18 10:59:00 | All these people that are happy to stay with XP...??????? I wonder if these were the same people that were happy to stay with their outdated Windows 98 I remember there were a lot of people who found it hard to make the move from win 98 to XP. I for one intend on upgrading to Vista one day in the near future. And I'm sure that all you nah sayers :groan: will eventually make the move to Vista too  XP or Vista Basic version, I would rather have XP. I have had a play around with Vista basic, and it was terrible. It didn't have the Aero interface and transparency(which is one of the main features for upgrading to vista), and you couldn't change the theme to any of the old XP themes. It also kept coming up with various warning messages, such as 'are you sure you want to do that' etc. Apart from this it felt no different to XP in the way it worked, and had many of the same old tools that windows NT/2000/xp have which hadn't been improved on vor many versions. It reminds me of the windows ME upgrade for win 98. People forget that microsoft released windows ME, which was probably the worst version of windows ever released. |

It didn't have the Aero interface and transparency(which is one of the main features for upgrading to vista), I wouldn't consider upgrading to anything other than Ultimate, As I see it the others are a waste of time. Also I'm waiting until SP1 is released and a few more drivers are available. It reminds me of the windows ME upgrade for win 98. People forget that microsoft released windows ME, which was probably the worst version of windows ever released. And I agree windows ME was and is just crap. |

| 533164 | 2007-03-19 13:55:00 | All these people that are happy to stay with XP Does it say that anywhere? About all you could imply is that their expectations of a desirable outcome are higher with whatever they have at the moment than with Vista while it goes through it's teething stages. Since the main reason currently for using Vista appears to be the aero interface, people may just decide that "Better the devil you know . . ." Even the most die-hard MS fan should admit that there has been the odd slight hint of a blemish appear on Windows initial release. They will be sorted out. How many people do you hear complaining about Win2.0 now, there hasn't been a problem for years. Vista will be the same, wait and see. Once it has had all the testing and tweaking, and been replaced by something else the complaints will die away. I mean, Steve Ballmer said it is good and surely you can trust him in these matters? |

| 533165 | 2007-03-20 01:20:00 | I think I understand the point your are making. However with Vista, it went through a very long and public BETA stage and testing, so I would have expected that the retail release would have overcome most of the problems. They also cut a lot of the features from what they wanted vista to be, includng the new file system. You don't hear of the types of problems windows users have had, when apple release new versions of their OS, however this maybe because it s not as popular as windows. | robbyp (2751) | ||

When Macs have software problems resulting from updates you can bet than Mac users voice their frustrations, usually within half an hour of installing the updates, if and when they occur. This can also occur when the first version of an update like 10.5 is released (due out very soon) it has nothing to do with the fact that there are less Mac users than Windows users. The difference between XP- Vista and Mac OS9 - OS X is that Vista is pretty much just more "improved" code on top% |

| 533168 | 2007-03-24 04:57:00 | Upgrade to Vista Ultimate was easier than 2000 to XP. Found most of the drivers needed except my Benq scanner and HP photosmart printer. Backup and Restore are a pain! Roger |

| 533169 | 2007-03-24 07:01:00 | So, as long as there are no actual flames coming out it is good? :D The marketing has got you all mesmerised, you're starting to sound a bit like Apple fans (Only the names have been changed.) ;) Hey, it's Windows with widgets, - -some didn't work at all well, so they left them out. Some didn't work quite right, so they left them in. Some features are pretty hopeless just to ensure users have the Microsoft Feeling they have grown up with. |

| 533170 | 2007-03-24 07:18:00 | Surprisingly enough....... I had absolutely no problems... im back up and running with all my apps, in about 3 hours. Vista install took all of 20 minutes. (this is with vista ultimate) Only hardware vista didnt like was my Yamaha XG Sound card, but that was junk anyway.] Well... vista has gone from my system. Kept locking me out (the anti-piracy stuff), and this was often when i was copying PHP files from server -> server on my LAN |

| 533171 | 2007-03-24 22:13:00 | I will stick to running XP, and removing Vista for other people. At least Vista makes XP look better (and at no cost). ;) Vista makes even Windows ME look good.... |
