734527 2009-01-02 21:18:00 I'm using Vista Home Premium and the built in backup is stupid. I just want a reliable program which I can use to copy selected folders to my external HDD, and update them from time to time. What do you guys use? kettles (14332)
734528 2009-01-02 21:30:00 MS synctoy works great and is free, available to download from there site gary67 (56)

734530 2009-01-02 21:48:00 A batch file :p
I find this excellent for backing up my firefox profile and outlook data file each day :)

Create this file in notepad called 'SyncOneWay.bat'...

@echo off
echo Scanning for and Syncing altered files in
echo %1 and copying them to %2
XCOPY "%1" "%2" /D /I /E %3
pause

And this one (call it whatever you like)

@echo off
title Syncing F:\Files to M:\SyncWithInternalDrive\Files
SYNCONEWAY "F:\Files" "M:\SyncWithInternalDrive\Files"
pause

Where F:\Files is the source and M:\SyncWithInternalDrive\Files is the backup destination

Then put both files in the same folder and run the one with your choice of name :)

734531 2009-01-02 22:31:00 SyncToy is good. SyncBack is even better. :thumbs:
There's an excellent free version here (www.2brightsparks.com).

I tried using Sync toy A while back. It produced something like 75 errors backing up a partition of about 1GB, consistently, by its own count, so I stopped using it.

Maybe I was doing something wrong?:confused:

Good skills !

That looks great
I am an old Dos head and used to use batch files all the time.
Not such clever one as yours though !
I have been writing a few scripts these days, but find it hard to get to grisp with.
