2009-01-02 05:37:00 | Hello, I have recently changed to Vista Ultimate 64 bit, at first it worked super (my techie mate set it up for me). I brought it home and tried to set up my HVR 4000 but something must have gone wrong, it started saying "mode not supported" on my LCD TV display. Now I suspect its not the resolution (as I should be able to do the resolutions I am choosing) so I am trying to set the refresh rate in safe mode, yet there is no option to do so that I have found, they are all greyed out. Im new to Vista so I just dont have the problem solving techniques. Any ideas? It did work at first, until I started on the HVR 4000 (I did remove and reinstall the drivers, but to no avail). But I definetely want to have a crack at that refresh rate!! Whadya think?

2009-01-02 06:28:00 | To change the refresh rate in vista, Right click the Screen / Personalize /Display Settings /Advanced Settings Button/ Monitor Tab / Refresh Rate drop down Box. OR if you want pictures/movie - Have a look Here (www.vistax64.com) Edited: sometimes you can also change it on your Graphic Card settings (nVidia You can any way) If it started playing up when you fiddled with the HVR 4000 - I's suggest you go back into the settings and see if it has a default reset first.

I think I will remove everything to do with the HVR 4000 for now including the card itself, but that shouldnt change my problem. |

2009-01-02 10:12:00 | The windows update WONT work or install in safe mode and lots of other items also wont work . Safe mode is a DIAGNOSTIC / REPAIR mode for trouble shooting, it loads only the basic of drivers that windows needs to operate . If the PC loads in safe mode(as you said it does) then its a driver issue - plain and simple . Obviously some settings have changed to cause the problem - as you mentioned it was working Ok until something was altered in the HVR 4000 card . 64Bit OS's are still a pain in the butt, as there are LOTS of driver issues still . I have just fired up one of the workshop Vista PC's, the change refresh rate settings DONT work in safe mode, but do work perfectly in normal mode . Two things you can try - start in safe mode - click start - in the search type in system restore - when it appears, open system restore and run it back to BEFORE the settings were changed for the 4000 card . If that doesn't work you can try this ----- To "try" and alter the refresh rate download Refreshlock ( . winsite . com/files/517/ar2/winxp/sysutil/refreshlock . zip" target="_blank">dl . winsite . com) <-- Thats a direct download - it was a pain to find the latest version without being jumped from pillar to post :waughh: Don't know if this works in safe mode - never tried it, or for that matter on a 64Bit OS . I suggest you create a folder in the C: drive - do the following from the instructions provided by another forum - Unzip to wherever you'd like to run the application from, create a shortcut to your desktop for said application . *Right Click* on shortcut to Refreshlock 2 . 21 and 'Run As Administrator' Do NOT set it to boot with windows . Personally, I reboot maybe once a week/fortnight or whenever some lame ass application/driver requires me to do so . Heres a screen shot ( . imagef1 . net . nz/files/reflockpic1 . gif" target="_blank">www . imagef1 . net . nz) of the settings . Edited: just checked on My vista and the refresh rate is set to 60 Hz

2009-01-02 20:24:00 | Yeah refresh lock wont let me choose 60hz as an option anywhere . . . . I think this is because my monitor doesnt have drivers (XP worked superbly on this monitor wihtout them) . I will try to system restore (if possible) to the earliest possible moment . Sigh . . . . Vista has been problematic and has yet to show me any benefit over XP .
