2009-01-05 08:45:00 | Hi guys i have an old model of Apple's iBook G4 13". It is about 2 years old and it crashed a while back. It can't switch on now. Any advice on what i should do with it? | JA88 (14012) | |
2009-01-05 08:53:00 | Can you be a little more specific , any lights or sound at all when you try to start it? Have you damaged it in any way..water for instance?

2009-01-05 09:04:00 | Nope no sound no nothin. It can't be switched on and it hasn't been dropped or come into contact with water. It just died overnight. | JA88 (14012) | |
2009-01-05 09:08:00 | If nothing at all happens then in my opinion its either the power switch or the power supply. I doubt you can fix it yourself, but if you want to try I think I have a manual round here somewhere. | limepile (96) | |
2009-01-05 09:12:00 | Because right after it "crashed", i could still switch the system on but nothing was functioning. Right now it can't even be switched on. So you're suggesting i dismantle it and change the PSU? | JA88 (14012) | |
2009-01-05 09:35:00 | I'm suggesting it could be either of those two things, or even something else, its hard to diagnose something without seeing it. What you end up doing with it depends on how attached you are to it and how much cash you have. Taking it to an Apple approved technician would be the smart thing to do , but I'm not smart and are renown for my tightness and I nearly always try to fix things myself. How much like me are you? First- take the battery out and plug the laptop into the wall. Any joy? If the PSU is gone there will be no lights etc, but this is also true of the on/off switch. If the mobo has died there should still be a power light coming on (I don't know where this is on a G4, on my intel macbook its on the front edge and only shows when the lappie is asleep or starting up. I have only experienced once, a laptop trying to start and crashing, then the next day dying completely and it was water damaged. Not that yours is, the damage wrecked the mobo, but the lights still came on. But then if a PSU dies, it does it all in one hit, it doesn't stagger around for a day or two...so who knows?

2009-01-05 09:43:00 | I don't think i would take it to a technician cause apple just eats our money. And i'm not really attached to it, just trying to salvage whatever's left of the iBook. 1. The adaptor light comes on when i plug it in but it can't be switched on. 2. There's no power light in the front (i know the sleep light sign u're talking about)
