735143 2009-01-05 05:15:00 Hi,

I discovered today that the monitor of my Presario Compaq laptop does not turn off when i close the lid like how it used to. I have made sure that the settings are set to "Do Nothing" when I close the lid.
This laptop was bought on 19/01/08 and the monitor had always turned off when I closed the lid down to a certain degree... until today.
I have searched the web but I am still not sure what is causing this problem, whether there is a problem with the sensors / mechanism or some other problem
Any help would be greatly appreciated :thanks

PS: My laptop model is Presario V3000 (v3645AU)

-Thanks again ;)

- this is probably the cause.

No,
There are four options to choose from:
1.Do Nothing
2.Sleep
3.Hibernate
4.Shut Down

"Do Nothing" turns off the monitor when the lid is closed as i mentioned on my first post, that the monitor would automatically turn off when i closed the lid of the laptop down to a certain degree...

735146 2009-01-05 06:55:00 If you choose another option, say sleep, when you close the lid does the laptop sleep? If not probably the sensor no longer works. Also maybe try updating your graphic chip driver. SuSu (12582)

NO... you're wrong... Do nothing means just that... it will do nothing... the monitor will stay on when you close the lid.

If you want the monitor to switch off but keep the laptop going... you will need to change the power settings for the monitor to switch off after "x" time period.

That's in Control Power under Power Options.

Some laptops have a sensor, which is pressed when the lid is being closed, the LCD automatically turns off immediately no matter what the OS settings are.

Yes, i think you may be right because before the problem happened this morning the setting was set to "Do Nothing" but the "x" mins for the monitor to turn off were set to 10 mins (and i don't think this affects the monitor to turn off when the lid is closed since the monitor used to turn off immediatley after the lid closed).

Yes SuSu, I did try setting the lid to "Hibernate/Sleep" before and they both worked. Only the "Do Nothing" does exactly nothing, but I remember that option turns off the lcd monitor when I close the lid down.

So does anyone know why this is happening, where the other options work like "Hibernate" and "Sleep" but the "Do Nothing" option does not turn off the monitor off like how it used to?

-Thanks

No i don't see any visible springs. I'm guessing that the sensors or mechanism that connects the monitor to the rest of the laptop is faulty but im not sure
