| 535333 | 2007-03-23 22:01:00 | Hows this for great marketing... ...all those that turned up for the midnight event also got a free HD TV to go with their new console. ...The London HD TV giveaway is thought to have cost Sony more than £250,000. It also provided free taxis to get people home safely. Must be one hell of a  profit margin on those PS3's ! |

Due to the amount of competition in gaming consoles they are all sold at a loss with the company then attempting to make a profit on the games and other add ons that are sold. I think the first Xboxes that were sold cost $199 US which were manufactured in Mexico, I can't remember what they retailed for in the US but I am sure that it was slighly under that price. That might sound stupid to a lot of people, but the likes of MS and Sony have they eyes set on the potential multi hundred mullion dollar console gaming market so they are willing to "take a hit" in order to win customers. |
