535271 2007-03-23 16:01:00 Anyone notice that Sanitarium and Signature brands of peanut butter are now made in China? tut (12033)
535272 2007-03-23 20:14:00 A lot of other products are "Packed in NZ from local and imported ingredients", meaning they import bulk, cheap and nasty stuff from China, and pack it here.

Watties is notorious for doing this.

My word, you should take all those shoddy peanuts straight to the Minister of peanuts - heads should roll.
Chna makes an enormous range of goods, from downright shoddy to quality of the highest standard. Perhaps those who consider cheap is the same as good value should consider that any fault lies with the buyer as much as the seller?
If New Zealand farmers sell produce in China, it is seen as indicating efficiency, if Chinese farmers can get their produce here it is seen as bad - strange. When this occurs in spite of freight costs, it may indicate that the New Zealand peanut farmers are less efficient as well as elusive. (Imagine the furore if Chinese horticuluralsts tried to mass market Kiwifruit throughout the world, passing them off as Chinese Gooseberries ! :groan: )
The "New Zealand Made" cars were a somewhat similar case, with substution of UK for China, and expensive for cheap. Many considered their Austins, Morris's, Fords or Hillmans to be New Zealand made. Some even consider we should re-impose the >3 to 1 duty imbalance to ensure their return !
P.S., Anybody here eat off China plates made in non-Asian countries?

535274 2007-03-23 22:38:00 Of course there are good and bad quality products coming out of China. However, Sanitarium had a scare a few years back with their imported peanut butter containing unsafe levels of arsenic and lead, and had to conduct a product recall. somebody (208)
535275 2007-03-23 22:58:00 Do we grow peanuts in New Zealand ?

535276 2007-03-23 23:19:00 I won't pay $10 for a jar of peanut butter made in NZ.
Or get the taxpayers to milk the NZ producers.
Look at the bigger picture, NZ has issues too so why do we continue to reuse NZ.

Is there anything not Asian made? Apart from your computer you are looking right now.

Growing peanuts in NZ, heck, get it installed indoors and we can even grow coconuts and get milked by the taxpayers.

Look at the world, NZ is like slow motion compared to developed countries or even developing countries.

535277 2007-03-24 00:30:00 As I sit in my Made in Asia chair, looking at my Made in Asia monitor contemplating about whether Made in Asia is a good thing . . .
I think and ponder about it .

Then I look at my Made in Asia watch see the time and then wonder whether I should get tonights roast ready, using a Made in Asia baking tin, Made in Asia dinner plates, Made in Asia cups, cutlery and look at my laid by asians tiled floor .

And you know what? Theres nothing wrong with it . Asian invasion here we come .

535278 2007-03-24 01:55:00 Tonight is a bit of an exception, but most nights, my dinner is via Asian Maid (and if she catches me calling her a maid, I will suffer an Asian clip on the ear).
The invasion is over for me, - I won :D
(But only by dedicated collusion with the invader.)

535279 2007-03-24 03:15:00 Made in Asia is Ok to a certain extent, cheap computers and clothes,

But we have to sell things overseas so that we can buy Asian products !

So what can we sell ?

Don't forget your made in China undies, socks, teshirt and jeans.

And there is something wrong with it. We don't make anything anymore.
All we do is export dead animal carcasses, logs and less of them too now, and a some dairy products.
Which is why everyones always panicking over having a high dollar.

And the problem is too many other countries have logs, dairy products and dead animals too.
We need to produce high tech stuff, or even low tech stuff like China.
