534379 2007-03-19 21:57:00 down here at EBGames you can trade in your working (keyword: Working) PS2, 2x controllers and 25 mint condition games - then you can get a PS3 and a controller (maybe if your lucky) for $900 with a deposit of $100 in there somewhere - same goes for an Xbox and 15-20 games MAC_H8ER (5897)

534381 2007-03-20 02:00:00 And they won't even play PS2 games so you gotta keep your PS2 as well if you still want to use that library of games you have collected over the years. Tukapa (62)

I believe the US PS3 will play PS2 games but we got the "crippleware" version.. Sounds a bit like iTunes NZ..

534383 2007-03-20 08:41:00 According to what I have read and heard, the NZ version PS3 well play PS2 games but not as many as the US version.

They are not guaranteeing that the PAL version will play any PS2 games. They have removed the US$27 chip to save money and have replaced it with emulation software and there are no guarantees they will do any work to make this compatible with PS2 games once they have sold you the console.

And this was one of the big 'advantages' they were spouting on about before it was released.
