535318 2007-03-24 03:45:00 Maybe you missed this: "When the policeman got there he began lashing out, punching and kicking the officer and being an absolute menace," .

Lets put you as a policeman and see how fast you would use a taser.
I sure would have done so.

Means nothing.

Last time I was in court the cops read out a series of events that nearly knocked me over with the amount of artistic license was involved, I was there to plead guilty and was left wondering i was even there for the same event as the cops.

And the gent reading out the account was even adding emphasis to certain things to paint me as bad as possible,as well as adding in statements I never made, and yep, You guessed it, The cop that arrested me by knocking me on the head with his night stick had a nice little tale of how I was violent to him which warranted the force used.

The fact was that he approached me from the side and while I knew he was approaching I never turned fully to to face him, Just got a couple almighty thumps to the head instead. Suppose I should count myself lucky I wasn't tasered or shot instead.

Don't believe the crap in the papers, a cops first responsibility is to his own skin and to his uniform.

535320 2007-03-24 21:21:00 Greg, if he was a "helpless teenager" and there were other cops standing close by with no other problems to contend with, then sure sure you are quite correct in slamming the tasering . Neither of us were there to witness the event so it comes down to our perception of it and perceptions are influenced by our interactions with police . Unlike Metla (mistreated and misrepresented by a pig of a cop), and maybe unlike yourself, all of my dealings with the police over the years has been positive . This includes behind the scenes (in police stations) and 'on the beat', in and out of the work environment . But yes yes, there are always going to be bad cops - in any country . Generally I think NZ has a very good police force, better than most other Western countries . Doing police work is no easy task - this is a huge understatement . Again though, I do realize there are pigs about, like those two cops in prison for rape (and most likely the Auckland commissioner recently taken to court) .

Tasering is extremely painful and causes even a big strong healthy man to drop like a stone . But it is all over in around 5 or 10 seconds . Under the police guidelines/restrictions for using a taser, I would not hesitate to taser a violent offender . But a "helpless teenager" quietly peacefully laying on the ground? Of course not . At this time I choose to believe the witness quoted in the newspaper: "When the policeman got there he began lashing out, punching and kicking the officer and being an absolute menace," .
