possibly Avira too although I have no personal experience with it.

Nod32 for a paid one

735319 2009-01-05 19:33:00 +1 for Avast :) davidmmac (4619)
735320 2009-01-05 19:35:00 Yep, can't go past Avast for a free AV, and NOD32 is definitley the smart choice for a paid one. wratterus (105)
735321 2009-01-05 20:28:00 I used to use the AOL special edition of McAfee, it's almost the same as the paid for McAfee but free to download from AOL (you need to register a free AOL account first). It was good. SuSu (12582)
735322 2009-01-05 20:30:00 You my friend are going to get a little blasted from that comment. McAfee is rubbbish now. wratterus (105)
735323 2009-01-05 20:58:00 AVG is very good - much better than the "big names" (norton, mcafee, etc.)... which are universally a rip-off. dlane (11847)
735324 2009-01-05 21:05:00 AVG has also gone far downhill in the last 12 months.

Verson 8.0 can be as system heavey as a lot of the more well known products (Nortons, McAfee, PcCilllin).

It also doesn't protect nearly as well as Avast and especially NOD32 do. Definitley not recommended, you guys need to keep your finger on the pulse. :)

735325 2009-01-05 21:32:00 All the security software I used in the past several years were free, for antivirus AVG Free, AOL edition of McAfee and AOL Active Virus Shield (Kaspersky 6 engine), for firewall ZoneAlarm Free and Comodo. Not long ago, I spent $27 + GST on a Kaspersky 2009 Internet Security Suite (single user license), it's totally worth it :) The time and efforts it saves value far more than the price. SuSu (12582)
