734997 2009-01-04 04:44:00 Happy New Year All

I got a new notebook for Christmas which has come with a "trial" version of Windows Live One Care (under Vista Home Premium SP 1). I've done nothing to activate it but every time i start up it prompts me that it "needs attention" which I ignore. It is, however, altering my firewall settings under certain circumstances without me asking it to.

So, the question is, "Is it worth bothering with or shall I just zap it?" Any opinions for or against gratefully received.

Theyre both hopeless

735002 2009-01-04 22:38:00 MS are going to kill Onecare in June 09 anyway. And replace it with another program (which will be free, called Morrow or something) Speedy Gonzales (78)

735004 2009-01-05 00:04:00 Yup  MS should give up while theyre behind :p

And admit they know nothing about anti-virus / malware software

735005 2009-01-05 01:29:00 You would think a company that wrote their own OS would be the best at designing an antivirus that would be the best at cleaning out viruses from said OS, since they should have the most intimate knowledge about how the entire thing works.

Apparently not.

All I've heard about OneCare is that it's mediocre and pretty useless, and you can get a lot better programs for free. Even Norton is probably a step up!

735006 2009-01-05 01:43:00 I would rather have Nortons.

Yes, it's that bad.
