734884 2009-01-04 04:14:00 Hi Guys

My Toshiba laptop is running Vista and when I shutdown the Laptop Hangs for ages and dosnt shut down, Is there a text file or a File in the Computer recording the Problem So I can see why its happening and what program is doing it. I have Deleted OneCare from the Laptop and also Onecare from the registry ( Just in Case ? )
I was wondering if it might be Windows defender Id like to remove that as well as I want to put in my own Virus protection programs Cheers and Thanks

734886 2009-01-04 04:28:00 Go into task manager and see whats using the CPU

Or go to event viewer, wherever it is in Vista and look thru it. it''ll probably be under App or System

Did you uninstall Onecare before you deleted its folder??'

NOT a good idea deleting folders without uninstalling the program/s first

734887 2009-01-04 05:20:00 To check the events in Vista, Click Start / In the search box type in eventvwr When it shows in the results - click it, ( may take a few seconds to open) On the left - expand Windows Logs - then look through both Applications and System to see if theres any reference to the problem.

To disable Windows Defender - click start in the search type in msconfig Select it when it shows - Under the startup Tab, Untick it, click Apply/OK then reboot - that should stop it from running - to check, once rebooted, click start type in Services - open services - scroll down till you locate Windows Defender, double click it - in the box in the middle it should be set to disabled.

734889 2009-01-05 04:34:00 I had this problem for a long time with Vista. It turned out to be the Creative sound card drivers. Updating the drivers fixed the issue. enzojugs (14484)
