NZ is not the only country that has data caps, the UK, Australia etc…. All have data caps, all thought there data caps maybe a bit bigger then what NZ has ( not too sure about Australia thought as I think they have a mix of smaller then NZ data caps & bigger then NZ data caps ), but even so they all have data caps. Having data caps is the only way that Telecom can manage their substandard network and keep it functioning. That’s true, Take a look at what happened with Xtra Go large & that will explain why NZ has data caps. You can also blame people who use p2p for data caps as well.	stu161204 (123)

A friend of my wife has a brother who used to be a Telecom network services architect. He told me that the reason Telecom charged do much for Jetstream was to limit the number of people who could afford it meaning that Telecom could get away with offering the service without being forced to upgrade the network since if the whole country got onto Jetstream simultaneously the network would SNAFU. (this was about 2-3 years ago, unfortunately nothing has changed)	winmacguy (3367)
534782	2007-03-21 09:30:00	There is nothing wrong with the data-cap concept, But in our case the data cap is tiny, The speeds are crap and the prices are high, and as you go up the scale they blow sky high. Personally I can handle the speed I get, But not the attitude that considers fair use to be abuse.	Metla (12)
534783	2007-03-21 09:30:00	also don't forget majority of ournet traffic is international. most of that is due to how size but also partly because we suck at interesting websites. ive been trying to shop for some things, do you think i can find a site here who list them? nope, even the big stores who would normally have them don't have a product list on their site. why do they bother with the site then ?? mind you the reaon the don't list anything is charges for hosting and traffic are costly here. a bit of a vicious circle.	tweak'e (69)

If Telecom were to get just one thing right, it would be akin to miraculous. It is one of the most unlikely events imaginable, even in a universe that specialises in the unlikely.
