736394 2009-01-08 19:35:00 Some clever person spilt a glass of wine on his near new Eee PC (bought in the UK). Got him another overnight, and, not having any exprience with SSDs, was wondering how to get his data back off it.

Only way seems to be to put his old SSD in the new Eee and hope it starts, then he has his data. I'm assuming that the chip next to the RAM is the SSD. Anyone know if that would that work, or If I could potentially damage anything by doing that?

Cheers. :D

If it is one of those SSD units which plug into the mini-PCIe slot, then yes - you should be able to swap it out. Is the EeePC 900 series the one which has "split" storage - i.e. 4gb soldered to the motherboard, 12gb on a card, for example?

736396 2009-01-08 19:47:00 Ahh - right. I think it is. I was thinking about that plug-in one. So more than likely his data would be on the onboard SSD. wratterus (105)

It depends. I think the default configuration is that the OS sits on the SSD which is soldered to the motherboard, and the user's data is stored on the removable one. Is this the WinXP or Linux version?

I *think* the Linux models were configured so that the user's home directory was stored on the removable SSD - so you might be in luck.
