536546 2007-03-28 22:10:00 Just placed my cursor over the NZ Herald's NZ map and noticed that Gisborne falls into an area called East Cape. I always thought it was part of Hawkes Bay.

When did this change, or have the Herald got it wrong?

Gisborne is in the area that Cook called Poverty Bay. I believe the Maori name for the area is Tairawhiti, but it now seems to be referred to (at least by the people Don Brash called the 'mainstream') as East Cape.
