735778 2009-02-09 07:50:00 Dugimodo: That would be true if the modems were of equal manufacturing standards.

The D-Link 302G's suck more than anything else ;)

735779 2009-02-09 08:32:00 So could any person explain why my ADSL works for me?

DSL 302 G BTW.

I love the colour as it matches my new calender.

735780 2009-02-09 09:34:00 Dont ask questions, you'll jinx your luck ... the router can sense it ;) Chilling_Silence (9)
735781 2009-02-09 21:27:00 i just replace my dynalink (isp frebie) as it blew the caps in it. got a linksys AM300 which is working great, a lot quicker.
also replace family members dynalink that was overheating and cutting out (dynalink didn't want to know as it was over a month old dispite it being faulty from day one).

only curse with the linksys is the save/reboot modem you have to do on every page you change. takes ages to setup.

735782 2009-02-09 22:17:00 I'm getting confused now. "Router" or "Modem". ???

The difference is really in marketing, the 'Modem' is usually designed for only 1 PC (sometimes may have only a USB port or may be an internal PCI Card) and a Router usually has an Ethernet switch/hub built in (and maybe a wireless AP as well)

However some devices with a single Ethernet port are also called a Router (since you can connect them to an existing switch) and they can give out IP addresses from DHCP etc

735783 2009-02-10 00:17:00 I purchased the D-Link 302g over 2 years ago and it never faulted. My download speeds were around 124KB per second. Now with my new Linksys wag160n my download speed is around 400kb ps from the same websight.

735784 2009-02-10 00:38:00 You may get better speed just by changing the filters. I was using the D-link ones from telecom and got about 1600Kbps connection, with new filters from DSE I get 3100Kbps connect from the same router (currently DSL-502T)

Download speed went from 160KB/s to 330KB/s
