536705 2007-03-29 11:23:00 It wasn't a pleasant day at all. :(

As I was walking up and down between "the fridge" and the Quad of University of Auckland, my jeans and my shoes had managed to accumulate a lot of water, which caused me to be soaking wet while attending my last lecture.

Oddly enough, bus drivers always switch on the air-condition regardless of what's the weather outside like.

Cheers :)

That reminds me of a telephone conversation that my British Physics teacher had with his father (he mentioned it in the class for our "entertainment"):

"I had visited Whakapapa."
"YOU WHAT?" :D

Cheers :)

PHONE SERVICES AFFECTED BY FLOODING IN FAR NORTH

Telecom customers North of Kerikeri may be noticing problems with their
phone service this afternoon due to a fault caused by flooding in the Far
North area.

A Telecom fibre optic cable was damaged at the Stone Store Bridge in
Kerikeri due to flooding at the site shortly after 2pm today.

The site is still underwater and may not be accessible for repair until
the flooding recedes.

Most customers will still have local calling in the Far North area but may
not be able to make calls to other national or international locations,
Telecom spokesperson Sarah Berry said.

“111 Emergency service access has been prioritised and provided for most
locations by a back-up radio system.

“Some national and international calling is also still available via this
back-up radio system.”

Telecom mobile sites at Kaingaroa North, Hokianga, Mangonui, Whangaroa,
Kerikeri and Kaitaia have also been affected by the fibre cable damage.

Telecom is working to restore service as soon as possible and urges
customers to listen for media updates.

536711 2007-03-29 14:20:00 I find it quite funny that there's been a huge campaign lately to "save the bridge" at the stone store, and one of the main reasons for it supposed to be being removed was that it was a flood risk. Looks like that one sorted itself out roddy_boy (4115)
