Everything will be a router - you need an ADSL router, which is a router with a built in ADSL modem.

735769 2009-01-08 04:08:00 If you arnt haveing problems then there is probably no real reason to change it. But then you never know, I had a new wireless N DLink router and the thing would drop connection every 5 minutes or so, got a linksys one - problem solved :) Fifthdawn (9467)

I've found DLink wireless gear to be horribly unreliable. I had hoped that their newer products were better (like the 302 vs the 502 - the difference is night & day) but it sounds like that is not the case :(

735771 2009-01-08 05:51:00 Linksys WAG200G is a great price @ $120! SolMiester (139)
735772 2009-02-08 21:13:00 Well I have bought a Linksys Wag160n ADSL2+ and all good. The speed for downloading has improved noticebly. Connected easily with ethernet cable onto Desktop PC. But had some trouble connecting Laptop with Wireless USB pen. Linksys help desk 0800 phone were very helpfull although foriegn voice was clear and polite.
Cheers ken

735773 2009-02-08 22:14:00 I prefer 3Com units myself.... very stable, and reliable and they are packed to the hilt with customisable features.

Now you have the pleasure of burning your DSL-302g, or smashing it with a hammer, or running over it with a car, or any number of other things ;)

Why not dispose of it in an environmentally friendly way? :clap

735776 2009-02-09 03:18:00 if you really want to know if it will increase your speed significantly you need to talk to your ISP. In order for ADSL2+ to offer improvements over ADSL for example you need to be closer than 3.5K (In practice much closer <2K I would suggest ) to the exchange or cabinet and the ISP equipment must support ADSL2+

I myself at almost exactly 3.5K from the exchange connect at around 3M and would not get any faster no matter which of the ADSL standards was used. The graph of speed vs distance converges at around this distance for most types of ADSL.

"Environmentally Friendly" just doesn't give the same satisfaction as treating it to a violent death :badpc:
