2007-03-29 07:05:00 | A lot of juices like Fresh Up, Just Juice etc. have ascorbic acid added to it to prevent the juice going brown (also to boost the vitamin C content). The ascorbic acid used is actually manufactured from tree bark funnily enough. | somebody (208) | |
2007-03-29 07:34:00 | .....I buy fish and chips at least twice a week. I am a heavy smoker. And I am still healthy enough to enjoy life....... .............I'm rapidly approaching 80. Now I wonder who said that less than a year ago

2007-03-29 17:40:00 | Well I'm feeling better today. I'm on your side Jack, being a fellow septuagenarian, and I claim for us old codgers the right to get a little cranky now and then. After all, we don't have much time left to help sort out the mess the world has got itself into. :badpc: The point in my posting about the (presumably) well known degradation of vitamin C in consumer products wasn't to continue the debate about the nutritional value of the chemical, but rather to illustrate that the companies that manufacture Ribena and similar products that make false or misleading claims about its nutritional value are either lying and don't care or, less likely, they don't know what they're doing and should get out of the business. Companies get away with it because there is no effective regulatory system in place to stop them doing as they please. Jack, if you don't get a certain amount of vitamin C in your daily diet your teeth will fall out, old scars will open and bleed, you will get increased irritability and depression and will eventually die. In this era of junk and fast foods the danger vitamin C deficiency is to be taken seriously....the makers of Ribena should be jailed. P.S........"Smoking increases the vitamin C requirement by 30 to 50%."

The Blackheads got the Windies out for 177. So I will ignore your PS. My teeth won't fall out. They've been gone for 25 years. I will eventually die will I ? Surprise, surprise! And I suppose the vitamin munchers will not. I don't want to live forever and become dependant on my walking stick and meals on wheels. Just finished breakfast. Two cups of sweet black coffee and four cigarettes.Hope they contained enough vitaman C to get me through the day. |

2007-03-30 11:51:00 | Until my taxes start being used to 'resolve' issues caused by their obesity (assuming that person is responsible for their condition - a whole different discussion!)!! well it is my business and yours too. seeing as we are paying to fix them up all the time. i'd rather be paying for fixing someones non-self inflicted health problem. Just what this country needs to move ahead; more of the shove-your-nose-in-and-pass-the-buck attitude. Well done chaps  While you're at it, lets start slagging off the smokers, stoners, ethnic groups, alcoholics ...

2007-03-30 22:56:00 | Why is everyone suddenly interested in how much vitamin is in their drinks. You're as bad as these people spouting about fat is bad for you , and all the rest of the "bad for you" foods. People have lived on earth for thousands of years without knowing what a vitamin was. People have been feeding on Hamburgers and fish and chips. They are still alive Why has everyone got so interested in them now? I suspect the "do gooders" who know absolutely nothing about everything and try to tell the world how clever they are. If you enjoy something eat it or drink it. My main cooking utensil is the frying pan. And I'm not fat! Or I believe the new pc word for it is obese. I buy fish and chips at least twice a week. I am a heavy smoker. And I am still healthy enough to enjoy life. And I get mad every time I hear this nonsense about "it's bad for you" Now everyone jump on me.   Naw I'm not going to jump on you. I reckon I am just jealous because I don't do the enjoyable things you do. I have lots of friends though who agree with you. I would try and get them to send you their support but unfortunately they have all died and I am still here. Makes you think! Tom
