I rarely buy there (preferring books from Zillion), but put in an autobid several days ago for 2 large jigsaws as a kid's present.
I didn't mind losing one (it was belt & braces) but would've happily taken both.
I was the opening bidder & apart from a couple of tentatives at the weekend - blown off by my autobid - was still leading this morning.
Both closed at 12.15pm.
A brand-new bidder (experienced seller) came in at 12.11 for one & 12.13 for the other - winning both - just as my emails arrived telling me I'd been outbid.
It's no big deal, but I'm curious.
Zillion has a rule where an auction can auto extend for bids in the final 2 minutes. I can't see anything similar on TradeMe. Does it exisr?

I think trade me does auto extend if there is a bid in the final 2 minutes, as I remember bidding on something, and it kept getting entended, and this has been in place for quite a few years.

I have found zillion to be ineffective for selling items on. It maybe better for the buyers, but their just aren't enough users who use it to get a good range of bidders for a product. I have also found the message boards on the Zillion website hostile and abusive, which totally put me off using Zillion in the future. I asked a simple question and the people (who seem to live on the message boards) attacked me with lots of stupid and offensive comments which weren't called for. I would rather not be bothered with that. At least the trademe boards are moderated by other users and it seems alot more friendly. I think a lot of kids use Zillion, solely as a networking site.

536387 2007-03-28 11:53:00 That's interesting.

I can indeed understand why Zillion's not so good for a seller. But as I'm a buyer only, I get the benefit of that smaller pool & its cheaper prices.
I also really like the fact that the Start price is the reserve, so there's none of TM's messing about to find that.
My experience of the atmosphere is also quite the opposite of yours.
However, I've never looked at a message board (on either site) and find that the handful of Zillion sellers I deal with regularly are very friendly & helpful - so I stick with them.

They have more books than I can ever read...

536388 2007-03-29 10:30:00 Several of the big-time sellers on TradeMe have websites on which the offered price is less than the reserve or buy-now price on the TradeMe auction. I guess they are adding the TradeMe charge to their normal retail:confused: Valerie (4740)
536389 2007-03-31 13:28:00 Don't be too concerned about it unless the seller refuses to sell to you. What happens quite often now is that sellers will have multiple quantities of the same item. He/She will sell one to you, and because theres other watchers on the auction, they may offer a price as an 'extra' to the watchers. This is not to say they don't want to sell to you, but that they are just using it the function as a way of getting round to other buyers without the hassles of relisting. techie (7177)
536390 2007-03-31 19:52:00 I'm going right off Trade Me.
Fed up with commercial traders and their commercialy imported rubbish.
One that annoys me are the computer merchants who advertise a list of parts add on $1,000 dollars and call it a computer.
If you are silly enough to buy one you then have to pay and wait a week or more while they buy the bits and build the computer.
Or the merchants who sell a part and when you order it they don't have it. It has to come from Timbuctoo or somewhere.
A good genuine auction of local goods was an excellent idea until if was hi-jacked by would-be businessmen.

It's also the sort of word typically found at the bottom of an empty bottle, or surrounded by empty shot glasses. :p
