CHEERS!!! :xmouth: You should never based your hosting requirements solely on price. Website uptime & website loading speed should be near the top of your requirements. I have been with several cheap hosts in the past, that used USA based servers, and often experienced 10 hours or more of downtime a month. Where are most of your website visitors coming from?. If most are from NZ, I would recommend a good NZ based host using NZ based servers, as websites load faster and email downloads faster from my experience. If they are from all around the world, then a USA based server would be ok, but you need to make sure that they use premium level suppliers and teir 1 connections and network, and are an established business. Many have a server uptime monitor, so ask the host to give you a link to their uptime monitor. Also look to see how long the host has been around for, and choose an established host that has been around for at least a few years. There are a lot of web hosts out there, which are setup by teenagers, who suddenly just disappear. Ths forum gives a good discussion of this issue and what to look for www.freewebspace.net |

| 536209 | 2007-03-28 05:31:00 | mejobloggs .. I had 2 accounts with them. I had contacted them originally through their website, and the contact email I had given them was different from my main email addy. When I attemped to close one of the accounts, they requested that I email them from the email addy that I had originally given them. Which I couldnt do, as it was one of 4 xtra accounts. I told them the situation, but they wanted me to fax them, a facility I dont have. The situation dragged on. Im not into the hassles of business that they wanted me to go through to, so I drew that site offline, and forgot about them. A couple of months later, they did as I had first asked and cancelled the account. Now why didnt they do that when I asked them to? Its resulted in us pulling our site as soon as the account falls due. Bad business practice! Roger ... for many internet users speed is important. For us, important is cost! You say NZ sites are faster that US, I have heard different. So who is a novise supposed to believe? Our contacts are world-wide as we offer accommodation, and no one has commented on the speed of the site. Living here in the backwaters of New Zealand, internet speed is a joke, piled up with lies from Telecom and no other company to turn to. Sure for a personal website, cost would be a mojor factor, as reliability probably wouldn't be that major a factor. However if it is a business website, you would expect to pay a reasonable fee for the piece of mind that it is going to be reliable and you will be receiving real professional service. For businesses who rely on their website for the running of their business, and have moderate diskspace and traffic needs, for most business cost doesn't really come into it, as you can get good quality NZ based website hosting for less than $2 a day. In some cases less than a $1 a day, which is really nothing for business. I think iserve are the company that now run kiwi web host. Before they cancel an account they would obviously want to make sure that the right person is cancelling the account, as otherwise they could be in trouble for deleting the wrong account. I would agree with their action, but maybe they need an online cancellation method to make it easier. If you didn't have a fax, I am sure they would have accepted a letter in the post. |
