735612 2009-01-07 00:51:00 Was wondering if it was possible to connect a digital tv receiver (Freeview box) directly to a LCD computer monitor (no computer) providing the right I/O ports and cables were available, and if so would the picture look "normal"?

Thanks

Yes, but it depends what monitor you have as to whether or not it would look 'normal'.

What monitor do you have?

No computer required

735616 2009-01-07 02:46:00 Yup should do, if the background doesnt cover the whole screen, fix it with the videocard drivers settings

Altho it may upscale, whatever its called since its max res is 1680*1050, not 1920*1080

That should do for freeview, but if you want to play blue ray, I would recommend getting a monitor that is full hd (1920*1080) to get the best possible experience.

735618 2009-01-07 02:51:00 Yep you'll be fine yahniai, as long as you get a screen with 16:9 aspect ratio. (That's what freeview's being broadcast in.)

I highly recommend this one, if you aren't going to use Freeview|HD then it's not necessary to get a 1080p screen, but you may as well as it will be pretty future proof. That screen has a 3 year no dead pixel warranty and also has aspect ratio adjustment so it's great for use as a TV setup. Has HDMI DVI and VGA inputs. You'd be best of with a Freeview|HD with a HDMI output. Otherwise best option woudl be to get converters to convert component to DVI, or RCA to VGA, although that last one will provide extremely average quality.

Eden has a very good price on them at the moment.

Good monitors, monitors you can trust. :D

Thats what I'm using at the mo. And where I brought this monitor from

I havent got a freeview tuner or receiver tho. So dont know what its like.

Altho, I may get a USB digital tuner. Save me forking out for a receiver, which will probably be 3 times the price

I'm using it as my main monitor, using HDMI
