536189 2007-03-27 08:19:00 Another need we have.
Looking for a reasonably priced satellite internet service.

Ive looked at quite a few, costs are incredible, so what do the members know of that I havent looked at.

You wonderful people ...

536190 2007-03-27 08:44:00 Two main types, Satellite download but phone line upload, not overly expensive (Bordernet) .

Or, Satellite up and down, quite expensive as you have to have a satellite transmitter on-site as well .

A neighbour at our weekend cottage wanted two-way sattelite and was prepared to pay, but a hill was in the way for that satellite, so went the Bordernet way .

But there is a lot of expensive hardware involved (including Satellite bandwidth rental by the ISP) so there will be no cheap way out .

536191 2007-03-27 09:31:00 Yes we certainly realise the expense in the equipment. Its the up and down pricing that differs immensely! Weve seen pricing from 100 odd a month to 400 odd a month. We have direct sight to the west so thats not a problem.

Using dumb telecom we can only get 31.2 kps. Theres a lot you cannot do with that speed.

We were given a contact for Marae connections, and could hook up with that, but it proved to be a load of %^$*^&*% .. hes got a site and all for it .. GRRRRRR

536192 2007-03-27 10:11:00 The variation in pricing probably reflects the length of contract.

Longer contract = lower price, as they recover it in profits over the longer period.

So look at both aspects.

And its 2Mbps down and 1Mbps up.
