737199 2009-01-11 04:42:00 Hi I'm having some probs with old comp

Mother inlaws

The computer is about 5 years old, I had to NT password crack it to get into it I can only get into safe mode it will load up in normal windows mode but shows desktop background and then hangs untill I get bored and restart it.

It's running windows xp sp1

I booted in safe mode uninstalled a bunch of crap

Ran ccleaner and deleted some old files

Ran malwarebytes that deleted some 32 infected files

Ran Hijackthis can't get log file off it though, usb don't work and can't think how else to get it off it's got no cd writer and no rj45 for my broadband.

Another problem is trying to run trojan remover that hangs after 3% of scanning.

Any ideas?

And what the hell is pc cillin2002? I imagine it's some kind of tuneup tool

737204 2009-01-11 05:19:00 can you put the log onto a floppy? gary67 (56)
737205 2009-01-11 05:31:00 If trojan remover is up to date, select all options under utilities first, then scan

If its hanging in normal windows, do it in safe mode / network

737206 2009-01-11 05:41:00 Can't put on floppy don't have a disk and I don't have a floppy drive on any of my other computers.

Can't update TR not on the internet on that machine but downloaded latest one.
It's hanging on safe mode I can't get into normal mode as above and I do the utilities before I scan usually.

Maybe the cpu craps out under the load of scanning or normal boot I've cleaned all dust out of fans and reseated the Ram just to make sure.

It is old its a athlon 2000+ with whats looks like an old ati 64mb card

Any other ideas very welcome.

737207 2009-01-11 05:46:00 Can you put it on the net tho?? If you could, I could check it out using teamviewer

If it can get into safe mode / network mode, it maybe better

737208 2009-01-11 05:52:00 I'll try

Maybe I'll run the system restore see if I can get it to run in normal windows then scan it, that just means I will have to crack the windows password again.
