| 536882 | 2007-03-30 00:31:00 | Friend of mine was working for a small business last year. He finsihed in December and went on ACC, well actually he filled out all the forms, saw doctors, provided doctors forms and all that. This dragged on and on and on. ACC said not to worry, he'd be backpaid to back in December. Last month he went down to WINZ who said they couldn't help him as he was "on ACC". All they could do was give him a food voucher. Never mind ACC was still sitting on thier behinds. His rent is $320 a week, the phone got cut off last week, ditto his email and cellphone. Don't know about power, he'd had a final notice but I can't get hold of him to check now. Anyway, finally, ACC get back to him this week (I heard via a mutual friend), they have declined his claim as the employer hadn't paid the ACC levies. |

Ah?....That has nothing to do with paying claims, as it leaves a potential hole for employees. If I'm incorrect, perhaps ACC could explain to him the employee contract for prisoners and sportsmen!!! |

Income related ACC compensation would depend on the employer paying their levies, but since they apparently haven't and ACC has declined cover, he can't be on ACC at all other than for medical costs, and that doesn't cover living costs. It follows then that WINZ should be picking up the tab for his unemployed status. With respect, your friend has been more than a bit remiss allowing things to get this far out of hand without going and knocking doors down to get action. At the very least he should first get his facts straight and documented, high-tail down to the nearest Citizens Advice Bureau to get some advice, then camp on the WINZ doorstep for an unemployment benefit. If he's not on income related ACC, and ACC have told him so, it follows that he is simply unemployed at present. There are also emergency benefits available and he could have sought that option by now as well. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

| 536887 | 2007-03-30 01:49:00 | So much for the ACC ads on TV these days. All lies. My wife had a huge fite with ACC last year over a back injury. After winning several reviews against them the only thing that got them to pay out was the threat of getting lawyers involved.. |

| 536888 | 2007-03-30 02:00:00 | He had hounded them for the last 4 months. ACC stalled until he had gone to WINZ the first time and then made an appointment with the local MP, which he mentioned. Then they suddenly said it was in progress so he cancelled the MP appointment. Now they say this stuff about the employer. Yes, he has gone back to WINZ, don't know the current status of that. I would be going back to the MP too, I fail to see how he can not receive help because of the employer, sounds mad to me. He hasn't just sat around waiting, he has been arguing. Fat lot of good it does............. |

| 536889 | 2007-03-30 03:18:00 | The way I see it ACC should be paying him what he is due and then chasing the ex employer for whatever payments they never made plus any costs / interest etc. | CYaBro (73) | ||
