537266 2007-04-01 21:25:00 My thoughts are with our Motorola in the cupboard, heart still beating, nowhere to go, fretting alone in the dark .

sob

I pulled our old Startac that hasn't beenused for years out of the drawer Friday and recharged it and found that there wa still $10 on the prepay. Used the fone during the day to use it up. However when we got home the curse of the analog fone hit, the battery was nearly flat. Recharged and it was still active when I turned it off at 10.00pm but next day no signal..
Now it's back in the drawer as a museum piece..

537267 2007-04-01 21:28:00 Well...there is the fact that analogue network had much better coverage.

So why shut it down?, Because it doesn't support all the whizz bang features that they want to charge extra for. Damn shame for those who just want a good reliable service for making phone calls.

Money matters.

They shut it down because they need to convert the cell exchanges into ISDN exchanges due to the Alcatel supplied NGN being some 3 years behind schedual and the old supplier NEC has closed down their NEAX 61 manuafacturing plants..

Telecom was saying in 2002 that the 025 network would only be supported for the "next few years", what has the voice network and NGN got to do with it?

If you saw my other post. They need the old cell switching exchanges to be converted to ISDN exchanges due to lack capacity on the old NEAX exchanges and the fact that the NGN that will take up this slack is way behind schedual..
