| 737461 | 2009-01-11 09:52:00 | Every now and then (usually when the laptop has been running for a while - but not predictably) I will get a system error displayed on screen "Windows cannot access the program or device. ..." (There's more, but I can't remember it). It's usually when an application appears to 'hang' for some reason - sometimes it's just following a link in the browser! The result is that I am unable to open any applications or save any open documents. A hard reboot is the only way to get rid of the problem. I have done some research after browsing the Event Viewer and have found these links: one (technet.microsoft.com), two (www.msfn.org), three (support.microsoft.com), which seem to relate to my problem. However none of the links, including the M$ one, appear to have a definitive resolution. I have not tried any of the alleged 'fixes', because there have been replies that seem to contradict the fixes supplied. Plus, I'm not too confident in Vista in amending what might be necessary Vista system files, or running VBS scripts suggested by someone I don't know anything about... Has anyone here had similar issues and resolved them? Vista Ultimate, SP1 |
