2007-04-05 23:17:00 | www.nzherald.co.nz If our government had even the slightest interest in what the public wants It would have changed the law years ago. But no, they'll have their police force, or whoever, running about collecting taxes from whoever breaks the law and opens their business. If they want businesses to close why don't they close churches too. After all religion is the biggest business in the world

2007-04-06 12:16:00 | So Jack, Laws get changed all the time do they not? Once apon a time there used to be 6:00 pm closing of Hotels for drinking alcoholic drinks. Not really sure when the Pubs went to 10:00 pm closing. Now it appears to open slather! I am of the feeling that any Government should not butt in on most people. My Dad and Mum were around for me and my other two siblings. They made a marriage vow "until death do we part" and that is what happened. Now we can have "civil unions", and if you took up with a "partner" you could be deemed to be married. So PC. Would you call a "manhole cover" a "personhole cover"? What I want has nothing to do what has transpired during the last few years. Some people push their own barrow. Have a look at the civil servants whom do not get voted for. List MPs, Local councils, Administration in general. OTOH we here have AMD, Intel, Vista, DOS, Linux, RAM, game fans, Vid card fans do we not? So if you run a business I agree that you should be able to run it 24/7. But!!!! What about family values? If you employ a christian person and He/She wants Sunday off? You employ a muslim person? You employ a seventh day adventist? You employ a Maorii person whom wishes to whip off to a tangi for a few days? You employed me and I did not feel like coming to work for some reason? Good Friday just is a christian issue. Should I be multireligion? Then I could take far more holidays could I not?

2007-04-06 13:24:00 | Went into a local shop on Bad Friday, some parts of the shop were covered over - just like ye olden days every Saturday and Sunday. (But more so on Sundays.) Strangely enough it seems even more stupid now than it did in the "good old days". We probably should hang onto a few of these older customs. Aren't zoo lions entitled to an occasional day of sport?

2007-04-06 21:51:00 | The church should not dictate when I can or cannot be able to do anything. | rob_on_guitar (4196) | |
2007-04-06 21:58:00 | Although I agree that the law is a bit crazy on who can and can't open and what you can and can't sell, at least in theory, if your employers shop can't open, they can't "force" you to work it. | dolby digital (5073) | |
