537896 2007-04-02 22:45:00 Why can't the darn forum clock stay on the correct time?!

Pre-DST it was too fast, now it is slipping further and further back the other way and going too slow.

Come on guys, this is a PC help forum. Put a new battery in the server - the clock has got to be right!! :nerd:

ntpdate -s pool.ntp.orgdaily with a cronjob - that'll keep it accurate to within a few ms.

537898 2007-04-02 23:05:00 Have you not visited their new office, someone came up with this (www.thehindubusinessline.com) idea, I think Bruce (www.c-realevents.demon.co.uk) may need a milkshake (www.mindfully.org) to give energy, he must be a bit tired after the move. Rob99 (151)
537899 2007-04-02 23:14:00 You're right, we probably have to wait for the coffee machine to arrive. FoxyMX (5)

God knows why they ordered it off Ferrit, it's a leisurely downhill stroll to B&B in Queen St and would have taken less than 10 days... think of all the agro that would have been avoided with the PF1ers getting things in a tangle :D

537901 2007-04-04 03:37:00 Unfortunately the timeserver is a Micro$oft service accessed via Go Large, so the fact the date is in the correct epoch is far more surprising than the time being a bit skittery. :o
No sidereal seconds were harmed in making this post.

537902 2007-04-04 03:53:00 . . . Put a new battery in the server - . . . That won't fix it . ;) The hardware clock which runs off that little cell doesn't give the OS its time, except at boot time . Unless the server is frequently rebooted, the OS time can drift . Its time is maintained by an interrupt, possibly still 18 . 2 times a second, as in the original IBM PC .

Why not put a sundial on the roof of the building, and point a webcam at it? Then we could argue about the equation of time .

And instead of a time daemon we could have gnomonics - live . :waughh:

I have to ask....what is a "cronjob"?

537905 2007-04-04 05:25:00 A cronjob is a scheduled task. Cron is the scheduling system used by Linux / Unix. If I remember correctly, the PressF1 server runs Fedora Core 5. Erayd (23)
