| 536797 | 2007-03-29 09:52:00 | I am looking for fireprrof storage box cabinet to store some documents. It will basically need to hold about 2 A4 enevelopes. Does anyone know of any online stores or even chain stores that sell reasonably cheap (but fireproof) storages thanks |

You may find a seller who stocks fire-protected storage guaranteed to withstand a maximum temperature over which the content is incinerated. Beware sellers who claim their product is fireproof. If you do not need regular access I reckon a safe-deposit facility with a major bank is your best bet otherwise photo copy the documents and deposit the originals. |

What fire-resistant "safes" provide is enough insulation to protect contents from excessive temperature for some time. I think the usual rating is 2 hours. The assumption is that the fire brigade will have extinguished the fire in that time. Otherwise, you will be grateful for the off-site storage of the backup copies. |

To establish the fire rating abilities, tell the seller you will take two, put the money for both in one box which will be placed on a roaring barbecue until the fire goes out. The seller then takes his payment from the charred box. If the seller accepts this, one box is all you need. If the seller will not accept this, you do not need any of his boxes. | R2x1 (4628) | ||
