738315 2009-01-13 19:15:00 I have asked this before, but no one came up with a definative answer.

I suspect I may have a fault in MB and would like to know how a pro. would go about checking for it. I don't want to remove MB if it can be avoided.

MB is Asus Striker ll Extreme. It is running a QX6500 3.0gh cpu. mildly o'clocked to 3.3. 4 Mb's DDR3 1600 ram

Problem: On average the motherboard reverts to default settings twice a week. If I restore my settings it runs fine for two or three days and then reverts again.

I also get complete lockups of my mouse and keyboard at least once every second day. Sometimes two or three times a day. The only fix is a power off reboot. This lockup only seems to affect mouse and keyboard. The picture stays on screen, and no message. Nothing in event viewer either.

Ram reports no problems in memtest.

Would love to get this sorted out.

738317 2009-01-13 19:56:00 15 pages of other people trying to sort this motherboard www.xtremesystems.org A Pro would probably check 1st to see if any other board using same components (nVidia etc) was any more stable. PaulD (232)
738318 2009-01-13 20:12:00 Get rid of any overclocking and make sure everything is running at standard/factory speeds.
Try that for a few days and see how it goes.
Motherboards have a built in function that if the overclocking fails, for whatever reason, they default back to standard settings.
The locking up you are having could also be caused by the overclocking.

Temperatures all OK on the system?

738319 2009-01-13 20:17:00 Yep. Remove the overclocking. If it makes no difference contact Ascent.
I told you that before.
Its usually fairly obvious if a board is faulty............

738320 2009-01-13 20:56:00 Motherboard has been running at default for past 24 hours. Have had two lockups in that period.

Have sent two posts to Ascent . Only reply so far, "Referring it to technical guys"

What concerns me is I bought it as "parts" and they assembled it for free. So I'm guessing that warranty will be on parts, not on computer

738321 2009-01-13 21:16:00 Most Warranties are on "parts" only - while there are labor warranties, if someone like ascent are building it then there shouldn't be a problem. For example - if you had a faulty board, you wouldn't go changing the RAM/CPU/PSU/HDD etc if they are perfectly OK.

If there was a labor problem it would happen instantly, meaning if someone did something wrong it wouldn't work.

Boards can and do fail at any time - Even had a brand new Board over Xmas DOA - replaced it and sweet as.

Which is a good thing seeing as most places only do a 1 or 2 year warranty on a whole system.

Just take it out and RMA it to them.

Only one problem you may have overlooked. If you ever knew.

I am almost 80 years old. I'm half blind and my fingers can't handle a screwdriver.

738324 2009-01-14 00:21:00 I had a similar problem with a ASUS board, not quite as good as yours but in the same family.
I got sick of it and replaced it with a Gigabyte, no problems since.
Have to come down on the side of "send it back"

I am sure there is someone in Rotorua that can help you, its only 10mins to remove a board.
