539338 2007-04-09 08:41:00 Hey peeps :D

My family is looking at getting an in car GPS and I just want to see what you guys would recommend.

Price range about $500 MAX

I have seen the Navman iCN320 for $400 at DSE, but there are none in any of the local stores... the iCN630 refurbished unit for $450 I am a little warry about the whole refurbished part though... would it still come with the warrenty?

Thanks :)

539339 2007-04-09 08:48:00 the refurbished models are just ones that have been returned to navman due to some fault or even just traded in and have then been run back through the factory, been fixed and updated to latest firmware, so in reality I believe they would actually be better than they were new. lagbort (5041)
539340 2007-04-09 09:18:00 Really? in what way? The_End_Of_Reality (334)
539341 2007-04-09 09:29:00 Come on, Everything is better once its been broken at least once.

Take a car for example.

Wait, bad example.

How about a Window?

Nope.

539342 2007-04-09 10:17:00 well think about it, whatever problems they had out of the factory have now been discovered and fixed, as well as them being updated to the newest firmware and having the maps from the newer navman models

edit: and yes they have the full factory warranty the same as any other navman product

539343 2007-04-09 10:18:00 There was a thread a month or so ago where myself and others gave their opinions, just search under Navman. Shortcircuit (1666)
539344 2007-04-10 02:15:00 I have read and looked at the threads, and ended up and going down to DSE and was able to get a Navman F20 for less than the advertised price  so we got that, so far I have found it quite easy to use and it got me home via the usual route, well that was its original path... it changed when I turned off in the wrong places, NOTE: that was to test its ability of re-calculating the route :p and it done a very good job, it beeped and flashed at me going down the highway :xmouth: The_End_Of_Reality (334)

I hadn't heard of NZ getting a geosynchronous satellite into orbit yet....

....seems either the fuse or the dynamite got wet.

I will tell you something about Navman... they are actually a NZ founded company :nerd:

It locks on to any available GPS the most I got on the way home was 5 at once :D

539347 2007-04-10 06:14:00 Is it the talking version? If so, just watch it when it tells you to do a U-turn on the motorway (and it will!)

They are a fun toy, shame a bit too hard to use on short trips and they really are a bit slow to catch up when you are driving over 150kmph :dogeye:
