539955 2007-04-12 11:03:00 For those who voted yes, out of curiosity what image would you load as an avatar? A cartoon character? A pic of your tattoo? Your face? A deep and meaningful anti-something logo? A car logo? A picture of your fav hobby? A TV character?

What would you load? And what meaning, if any, would it have for you?

Me? I don't hink I'd bother.....

539959 2007-04-12 16:45:00 who said i didnt like this forum . Its by far one of my favourites, since its not filled with insane people

Maybe not FILLED . . . but kinda approaching 50% I think . . . . . . . (yes, I'm included)

:2cents: here . . . let the avatars in, make viewing them an option, kill the offending ones and just see what happens .

Maybe give an offender the three strikes rule . . . . after three get vetoed by the mods, then the offender cannot post one again .

Everyone likes a little recognition . . . . the world is a snapshot any more anyway and silly icons are a quick recognition factor as well as a politico-socio statement .

If you give the inmates an icon or avatar, I don't see it as damning or dangerous . . . after all there are the mods!

539960 2007-04-12 19:55:00 This might be a solution: Members submit an avatar for approval, and mods have plenty of time to make a decision, say a month .

Avatars should not be automatically approved without the mods scrutiny or surely some idiot will have "Metla's hairy butt" or whatever - it is a given that someone will try to destroy the avatar idea . Any internet group I have belonged to always has at least one person who has the mission of destroying the harmony or eliminating the group entirely .

New members should not be given the privilege of an avatar because anyone wanting to trash and destroy avatars altogether will just create a new user name and create a nasty graphic .

BTW, I am curious if other forums only have a limited number of avatars to choose from or if any forum has a free-to-create your own?

The other forums I belong to allow you to create or use your own within the guidelines of the forum. if the avatar is unsuitable, it simply disapears and you may or maynot get a pm about it or if deamed so a rest period from the forum  depends on the admin deletee.

But what if they do a constantly rotating series of images?

539963 2007-04-12 21:35:00 God you guys... talk about sucking the fun outa life!

The gods (sorry- Gods) above have magnanimously allowed a pixelated pic for each and every one of their loyal subjects, which may or may not include an image, either in glorious full colour or more refined greyscale, of a hairy butt.

Me personally don't care if said image revolves, rotates, repeats, gyrates or inflates... but the bigger the better

539964 2007-04-12 21:59:00 Avatars can be misused.

They will be misused.

Anyone who needs an avatar to express their "personality" should frequent a forum which allows them.

I'd sooner dissallow the use of pseudonyms.

I do agree with you Graham, thats one reason i like this forum, But you can turn avatars and signatures off which is useful and which i do,
however just to prove how two faced i am, when Avatars come out I will have one even though I have them turned off same as i do for signatures

The problem I see with Avatars is that every 10 weeks or so there will be a flock of Illiterate prepubescent Computer genius who feel the need to change their avatar every 10 minutes and have dribbling posts about how cool such and such an avatar is, filled with text speak and general poor spelling and as in "your avter rox", "lol", "rofl" etc

I also loath smilies, although i do occasionally use them
