539915 2007-04-11 04:47:00 Stop using logic to refute my shallow brush off excuses. Metla does that. It drives me crazy. Where's the respect nowadays? Where's the fear? Where's the blatant bribery?

OK, it's something we toy with enabling ever now and then. Obviously, I like avatars. They're fun. But I do worry that it will end up being another thing that Jen, myself and Chill will end up policing when someone decides it's time to turn pictures of Brittany Spears' butt into their avatar. And despite user options to not display avatars, the argument that if people don't like it they don't have to see it doens't really wash from a management point of view.

But yeah, I know, you want em. I know we should have em. It might happen.

but wait .....

It might happen.

we actually have a chance? lol
Bribery, hmmm. Im a computer geek with lots of computer gear. you are a computer geek editior book person who has more gear. So how was I going to bribe you again?

At least give it a trial. Give it a shot. If it dosen't work, turn it off. We have no one to blame but our selves:thumbs:

539917 2007-04-11 06:11:00 Well, I guess it does help individuals to instantly recognise each other. So do names :p

I WAS going to abstain from this vote, till I checked out who voted which way, and noted:
a) that the vote was tied; and
b) Scott (who has an avatar) voted against them (rather ironic I think)

So I figured the only decent thing to do was vote yes

539918 2007-04-11 06:30:00 A lot of people browse the forum without being logged in. If avatars were introduced they should be invisible to all except those who are logged in and have them enabled. It is currently the opposite.

I agree with this. PJ

539919 2007-04-11 06:31:00 I agree with Metla's proposal. I'd have them on for that recognisable factor and moderating them would be easier than moderating posted content - see a tasteless avatar, knock them on the head.

I agree with this, too. PJ

539920 2007-04-11 06:38:00 Leave 'em off, if I wanted slow with fripperies I would be an Incredimail user.
Signatures are permitted and you can see the result;, some abuse the system.
Fairfax are allowed commercials, and the privilege is abused.

The whole country has gone to the dogs since we stopped eating the missionaries. ;)

539921 2007-04-11 07:02:00 If Avatars are forced upon us can we at least wait till after the school holidays? You know they will come, you know they will spam the forum, and you know they abuse the avatars. Pete O'Neil (6584)

Brttany Spears Bruce, surely people on this forum would have more klarse than that?

Do you not have the option to approve avatars before they can be used? Another forum I belong to does that. You submit your avatar, bribe the admin/mods copiously, and a few days later you avatar appears.

Of course that forum is nowhere near as well run as this one, apart perhaps from that small feature. :D

539923 2007-04-11 08:25:00 Perhaps we can elect a couple of members to do the moderation of avatars just in case something really bad goes wrong.

Cheers :)
