| 539422 | 2007-04-11 03:51:00 | Great method, but mine is slightly modified. Decide on what I want to buy -> Look on Pricespy for cheapest shop selling it -> Sign up --> Find out the freight makes it more expensive than buying it at a retail store --> start again. Trust me, you can waste a lot of time signing up just to find out the freight price is inhibitive. I've opened quite a few dummy accounts just to find the freight price. I have done that too, finding that the more expensive shop charged way less for delivery and thus was actually cheaper overall... thankfully for both places I already had accounts... As it happens I did have to return my first 6600GT back to supercheap - didn't have any problems as such but it did take a while for them to get me a replacement. |

| 539424 | 2007-04-11 11:26:00 | I don't know how many companies I have tried to buy computer parts off but I really hate those website that insist I "create a user account" . I only want to buy something not sign up to their website, club or newsletter . Well for those sites that do, I don't normally buy off them . Seems to narrow down my choices but thats my way of "voting with my feet" Its time you took note you "sellers of stuff" 1 . I don't like signing up to your site just to buy things . 2 . I hate "price + gst", why do you do that? Don't you have a calculator or are you trying to put me off? 3 . Get your freight sorted, I've had a large CRT monitor shipped from Auckland to Christchurch for $15 freight, yet I try to order 3 SD cards and someone wanted $48 freight - get real . 4 . I'd like to know the freight before I get to the final buy page (or sign up) . Well I feel better now that I've vented my spleen . Have a nice day . Basically it is due to cost . Computer shops use shopping cart software such as OS Commerce, and Zen cart, and getting a user to create an account is the default setting in this software . Same thing with the shipping and other settings . The softwrae is mainly developed in the US, so is designed for that market . It all can be customised, but is costly for a computer shop if they aren't programmers . |

Not so, Normal shops don't ask you to "create a user account" when you buy there, a receipt is all you need. Some websites don't require you to create an account either and yet you can still return faulty goods. |

| 539427 | 2007-04-15 05:39:00 | Time to summarize this thread. 1. Some people don't like to "create a user account", especially when its for a one off purchase. Some of those will even got to the extreme of not shopping on sites that do. 2. Some people dislike the Price + GST way of displaying costs, but most don't seem to care. 3. People like to know the freight early on in there shopping experience. 4. Shoppers are deterred by high freight high freight fees when buying from distant sources. |
