539219 2007-04-10 10:44:00 OK Foxy, short of stowing them in the air intake vent of any local real estate person's car for six months or so, a new and cunning plan is needed.
Obviously Southland garlic is at least 5 points up the rechter scale compared to the wimp strength stuff I've been using. Or N.I. lemons are an order of magnitude better at defuming than your backyard variety.
Obviously, stronger measures are called for. Just two questions -

Do you have access to a volcanic crater or a disused quarry?
Are you happy handling large quantities of napalm?

Answers on the back of an envelope please.

539220 2007-04-10 10:46:00 Next to the smell of fresh coffee, and frying onions, garlic is my favourite food related smell. Why would you ever want to lose it? Biggles (121)

Good, problem solved.

Give them to Bruce.

He can use them to store his coffee. :)

Because I prefer the whole house not to reek of garlic maybe?

The lid is back marinating in the citrus mixture, just in case I didn't give it long enough, and if the sun comes out again tomorrow it will enjoy a spell of sunbathing. It's going to need it after a session in the freezer tonight. No harm in hitting it with the full arsenal, methinks. There is no way it is going in my airing cupboard though.

R2x1: Pretend this is the back of an envelope: No.

539225 2007-04-10 11:12:00 Ever had roasted garlic mixed into mashed potatoes?
Heaven in a fluffy cloud

539226 2007-04-11 05:26:00 Well FoxyMX, you could save them as vampire / werewolf repellent talismans.

Garlic with beans and cabbage -
? ? ? ? in a fluffy cloud

539227 2007-04-11 06:10:00 ( ? ? ? ? is an acceptable version of the remarks uttered by sensitive persons encountering the non-fluffy cloud resulting from a beans, garlic & cabbage diet.) No relation to roasted garlic. R2x1 (4628)
539228 2007-04-11 10:30:00 FoxyMX - a foolproof method !
Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once.
Place lid in entire chopped up lemon boiled with 1 cup of water.
Wait 24 hours.
Eat a clove of garlic.
Wait two minutes.
Sniff lid - can you smell garlic?
;)
If you can, use lid in place of garlic in all cooking for 12 months. (Remove before serving.)
Use the savings to buy a new storage jar, bury old lid.
