539098 2007-04-09 04:21:00 Not at all, They merely gave me a price on an amp, Which I already knew before heading in, Then I asked to be shown the complete system I had spied on their website.

Then I went into Harvey Normans, who once again demonstrated that unless you brought along a case load stupidity then you have no reason to talk to their salespeople. Apparently the mere fact that their amp they chose to show me was marked down from $700 to $400 was meant to impress me so much I would just buy it, after being told it was an "excellent" item I asked for some specs, which caused much consternation with the result the sales-person went out back to "find" them and never returned, so i wandered out.

Crazy, I personally don't care in the slightest if an item has been marked down by hundreds, all it means is they couldn't sell them at that price, or that they want to dump old stock. In no way does it mean its worth buying.

Anyhow, That aside I just returned from Retravision, They didn't have the model in the flyer so I was shown an horrendous looking silver system with 326 speakers, Sounded crap, and a Sony system that I was told by the salesman that he owned, and had gone flawlessly for 4 years.

Right, A 4 year old model for current prices, Hell no, At which point I produced my CD which again sounded like crap on their system, Though probably because the salesman had no idea how I prefer my audio...

...But god damn it, Anyone who turns a sub up load enough to dominate the sound rather then enhance it needs to be shot, multiple times.

I could suggest going to a "proper" hi-fi store but I won't. If you know what you want and HN have it, they will have it cheaper than a "proper" hi-fi shop.
But at least the proper hi-fi shop will know what they are talking about (although you still have to put up with the sales pitch).

539099 2007-04-09 04:27:00 Cheers for the input everyone, As for a real HI-FI store, I would love to, Though the last one in Wanganui closed its doors years ago. Metla (12)
539100 2007-04-09 04:31:00 Well, I had decided if Vista wasn't worth buying then I would seriously look at a Mac, And, Vista is a bit of a sad joke. As recently as 10 days ago I was priciing up a new gaming rig when it occured to me I was wasting my money as I already have a damn fine gaming PC and what I really wanted was a video editing station and something for Mrs Metla to have for general use.

Greanted rabid Mac fanboys are pathetic and Apple advertising can go to hell, But the current product and price suits my needs, So, I have a Mac arriving some time in the next few days.

And this is the biggest load of utter BS I could come up with.

Lmfao.

My purchases and reasons for purchasing are detailed in my "Lets build a PC" thread, which maybe the greatest thread ever made.

Thank Christ for that (well, it is Easter- so I can blasphemy!)

For a moment everything went all wobbly.... like being in the middle of an episode of Dr Who watching some poor schmuck get his brain sucked out and you suddenly remember you had magic mushrooms for dinner

539102 2007-04-09 05:22:00 For the last few years I have been buying all my audio gear from a shop in lower (WT audio) i think, and in wellington city before they moved.
I'm getting top quality gear that has been well looked after and at a reasonable price. Far better then the crap you get at appliance shops.
Onkyo good Infinity good especially if you like loud music

A good friend of mine actually. Some audio gear depreciates like anything and many of his customers treat their gear very very well so second hand purchases can be very cost effective. Of course, if the gear that Mets just purchased via Trademe was in a second hand shop, he would pay more for it (yep, you still can get bargains on Trademe if you are careful).

539104 2007-04-09 06:54:00 This thread took a nasty turn there for a while. It must have put up consumption of strong liquor to a new high NZ wide for a while, one of my eyebrows is still entwined with my shirt label. R2x1 (4628)

You ratbag. I hadn't even looked at that thread past the first couple of posts and had to wade through the whole darn lot just to see that you're still a die-hard AMD fan. :p
