Thanks for the input If I do not want any person recovering data then I would not give them the hard drive in any event. Formatting a drive only stops the merely curious. You can encrypt folders or drives which would make the data unavailable to most without a password. |

| 737780 | 2009-01-13 05:57:00 | Open the sucker up and take to the platter with an angle grinder - once you have the platter looking decisively "dead" data recovery should be impossible. On a more serious note, a few passes of Darik's Boot and Nuke (DBAN) should do nicely |

(blogs.pcworld.co.nz) I was wondering about what it says, I use Ccleaner to clean my PC and empty the recycle bin if I have sensitive docs I want gone. I have set it to the setting DOD 3 passes. You can use the Guttmann method which is 35 passes. |

| 737784 | 2009-01-13 09:48:00 | Take the drive out and get creative :rolleyes: The better half came up with this great ?? idea the other day when I was having a clean out, she saw a dismantled HDD on the bench ewwww shiny - Is it stuffed ?? - Yep - how many you got - I pointed to a box under the bench - stuffed drives - then she got that look - you know the one that you dare not ask about - next thing I know I have to find another 12-15 drives to kill - something about a "funky" set of mirrors :groan: :help: :lol: attached is what we have so far. |
