539412 2007-04-10 20:30:00 Nothing will EVER cost that much to ship.
You are either not telling us correctly, or you are trying to buy from (some obsucure place) overseas.
even normal international shipping doesnt cost that much.

LOL,
You obviously don't live in the mainland.

Thanks for calling me a liar.

Note that when I first tried to use this particular company only the more expensive option was available for the South Island.

I see there is now another option, possibly because I sent them a "You have got to be Joking" message.

539413 2007-04-10 20:45:00 With my website:
I don't require that - I hate it too, its there so they can (potentially) spam you .

I don't do that either - annoys me too .
Even if you are a business, so what? You still have to pay the GST first, you only claim it back later .

I use NZPost (CourierPost) for everything under their $250 limit as its the cheapest and most reliable . .

Good on you pctek .

I think the other reason companies like you to sign up is to get around the Privacy Act . If you "signed up" then you must have agreed to allow them to collect information on you and you have also given them permission to do anything they put in there terms and conditions . How many people actually read those?

e . g . sharing you information with a third party - that is only something they can do if you agree to it . (not that everyone or anyone does it but the potential is there)

539414 2007-04-10 20:49:00 I never use their on-line order forms..
A simple e-mail asking for the total delivered price is the way to go. I also always ask, Do you have it in stock? Can you have it on the Courier today? If you get a prompt reply you know you are dealing with an efficient company.

I like it,
I'll be doing it this way from now on...

Thanks JJJJJ

I live in the mainland. Most of my suppliers are in Auckland. The most anything cost to ship was $15.
And I sent a PC up to Auckland from here - cost $37 for a fully built PC via courier.
Dunno who you picked...........

539416 2007-04-10 23:16:00 I have so many accounts with different shops based on my shopping method.

Decide on what I want to buy -> Look on Pricespy for cheapest shop selling it -> Sign up and buy it.

I have never received spam from any company unless I specifically asked for the newsletter, and that's not even spam anyway.

Though I can see how overnight courier to anywhere could cost that much... especially if you're in the south island and shop is in auckland. I'm guessing the cheaper option is via a more slower delivery method.

Arrrggghhh . Not the cheapest (unless its Ascent or other reliable suppliers), I would tend to stick 2 or 3 suppliers .

I agree I don't like signing up just to buy 1 grommet . However if I see myself as an ongoing customer, it is probably better to sign up as you don't have to key your details every time . I run an ecommerce site but we don't force people to sign up to purchase .

539418 2007-04-11 02:45:00 Well, I have never lost my money no matter how cheap the shop was, and the price doesn't change the quality of the product when the product is going to be the exact same thing from the exact same manufacturer, no matter where you buy it from.

I just see no sense in buying an item from one place when I can spend less and get the exact same thing from somewhere else, less the few seconds it takes to open an account.

But then I'm not talking an order as small as 1 screw or whatever... I mean that would be stupid.

Its just that SuperCheap comes to mind. Just wait till you have to return something (from a really cheap supplier). Thats usually when the wheels fall off.

Great method, but mine is slightly modified .

Decide on what I want to buy -> Look on Pricespy for cheapest shop selling it -> Sign up --> Find out the freight makes it more expensive than buying it at a retail store --> start again .

Trust me, you can waste a lot of time signing up just to find out the freight price is inhibitive . I've opened quite a few dummy accounts just to find the freight price .

Ain't that the truth.
Yep, I've been bitten by the SuperCheap thing.

I've also had to 'visit' a supplier to get something I've ordered and paid for.
