539573 2007-04-09 23:45:00 Okay, so it has an unlikely thread title, but here goes:

We were on holiday, when Dad's phone (a Nokia 6225) went flat. I plugged into the charger, then tried turning it on - no success. We tried again numerious times, and it never turned on. (However when it was plugged in, it showed the charging display, which most phones do these days when switched off). It was well and truly broken.

So when we got home, we went into the Papakura Telecom shop (by the $2 shop if you don't live there) with Dad's old phone. They took the model number and phone number and disconnected it. Dad was looking at a new Nokia 2855, which was $300. The guy behind the counter imformed Dad that he was eligible for an upgrade in June (he is on a contract), so all phones would be discounted (the Nokia 2855 would be reduced to $100). The guy recommended buying a $100 phone now and waiting until June to upgrade. Dad purched a Nokia 2118 to use until June. The guy connected it and listed it as Lost or Stolen. Dad now has a fully operational phone. (His phone is money, and without a phone, he gets no money.)

Hi-5 to Telecom for excellent service and wanting to save our dosh.

This bit doesn't make sense to me. If listed as lost or stolen why does it work.

539575 2007-04-10 00:13:00 Oops, wrong wording. The Nokia 6225 was listed as Lost or Stolen. pcuser42 (130)
539576 2007-04-10 01:25:00 Yeah, I think Telecom would frown on that, tho they definitely could afford it. I think hi-5 to the dude in the shop that hooked you up! :) hamstar (4)

(yes I realise you had the phone still on charge)

If so then what a piece... :p but it was a Nokia :dogeye: I have had my Nokia soon to be 2 years and that has taken so much... dropped onto concrete, falled out of my pocket onto concrete at 50kph... been completely immersed in water whicle on... the list continues... I think I am going to frame this phone with the label "My Strongest Phone" when I get a new phone :D

539578 2007-04-10 02:29:00 It has never run flat before, and Dad never turned it off - it was always hard to turn on.

Dad pulled the phone apart today - the power switch inside had fallen to bits.

539579 2007-04-10 02:35:00 Astonishingly good service from one of Telecom's staff - it is definitely newsworthy.

Most of their actions merit 40% of a high five - perhaps 20% on a good day, wouldn't it be great if this was the beginning of customer service sneaking through?

How is that good? They make him buy a $100 phone then he'll have to pay more again in June to "upgrade" .
Its all a con, they do this to my husband as well all the time, try and get him to buy phones . They are always the low end ones . . . . . . . . and he has never yet had to buy one at all . He says if they want him to have a new one it should be free . And so far he's got them all free .

amazing... any chance he could get free petrol while he's at it. I am sure that he has spent more on petrol than any phone bill - he should be entitled to something.

Ah, yes, but the total cost will be less, i.e. he buys a $100 phone now and gets a discount in June, the total cost would be $200, but if he buys the fancy phone now, the cost is $400. ;) And he doesn't have to upgrade either, so the cost would be $100.
